I have listened to LBC solid for many years Marb. It is on all day, keeps me in touch with stuff. I hope this hour might be more positive but generally these hours are just so negative.
Thanks, Jinny.
I know racehorses are unbelievably well looked after, but they do only have a life, well, because we want a bet on them. No industry means no racehorses means no unnecessary deaths. However, I am not totally ignorant to the absolute joy an animal can bestow upon someone; but I’d also ask why would you risk having that joy ripped away from you if your beautiful horse met a fence all wrong?
I must admit that I’ve always had to juggle the dilemma, but more recently a magnificent cat, Arthur, has come into my life - literally. He’s not ours, but luckily No.66 are quite happy that he stays 20 hours a day with us, as long as we don’t feed him, so that he can back home to be fed. Arthur has made me reevaluate my relationship with animals, I suppose. I’ve even turned veggie! But not vegan, and I’m not trans.![]()

Yeah I have listened many times and phoned in you have probably heard me but you didn't know it.
Yes she wrongly stated about 60+ horses have died in the race the past few years.
5 horses have died in the race since 2012.
5 out of 395 since the changes to the fences were made in 2012. That's a very very small minority.
She advocates banning it because of its link to gambling but works for a media company that has no problem with placing gambling adverts on her own channel LBC.
If that's not hypocrisy I don't know what is.
I will have heard you no doubt, next time you on, just say I'm known as Marb on Talking Horses:lol:
You mentioned something there I have sent messages to Clive Bull etc.mentioning gambling.
As you know they regualarly have an hour on gambling. I always point out that Harry Redknapp gambling adverts are all over the station.
I am currently struggling with a 17 year old beautiful girl cat who has hyperthyroidism. I would literally run through a wall for her. She is currently struggling with eating which I am trying to correct by giving her bad things like tinned fish, alongside normal cat food. Two days ago it got that bad re her not eating that I knew that vile day was coming. I discussed it it with my wife and we decided that Monday we would take her to be put down. On top of the not eating her body language is..I have had enough. I went to shop yesterday and bought her pilchards in a tin, she wolfed it down today along with her normal food. So at moment, I'm hanging on and hoping.
I hate horse's falling and having to be put down, but I also hate looking in fields as you drive past and some poor unkempt, not looked after properly animal, is stood in a sad way in the corner of the field.
You don't see these people trying to stop that, blatant cruelty
I feel for you, mate. If you love any animal, you love them all. I was so lucky today to be smothered by three Chinese rescue dogs - the owner had literally liberated them from the streets of Beijing in 2011!
Of course horses neglected in fields is a horror story all of its own; but our horses - we need to admit this - only live for our entertainment.
Haha yeah you have got me wanting to phone up now.
Thanks Len, pets break your heart at some point. But there are a lot of animals used for entertainment. I will bring up Crufts. How many dogs have been bred for looks at the expense of breathing issues etc. That is cruel too. I will also bring up circuses where animals are trained to do stuff totally against their nature.
Then we have fox hunting that is still being done illegally under the guise of trail chasing.
All those instances do not give an animal any choice. Horse racing does, if a horse don't like what you want it to do, it won't do it. In all those other instances, the animal has no choice.
There are a lot of animals used for entertainment.
I hate all the examples you’ve quoted, mate. Let’s just treat animals how they should be treated - as our friends and companions.
Sorry, I know sometimes I am on the wrong site. But I do actually really like a lot of you lovely people.
This comes back to the central philosophical that surrounds us humans aswell, e.g do we regulate the world for the protection of every tiny minority..that for all intents and purposes are the same as everyone else...like banning booze because of alcholics...ban gambling for people spunking 25 K away in five minutes...ban cake because people get fat...ban womens toilets because someone out there is transitioning...when will it end?
To live and let live sometimes means you have to accept to live and let die. Death is a part of life folks and risk is also a part of life.
I have had dogs all my life. When one dies I do what most people do. Grieve, get upset for a bit and then get over it given a bit of time.
Ps. I saw a video through no fault of my own which was kind of ramned down my throat of a group of comodo dragons eating an injured baby buffalo alive on facebook the other day.
Could someone ban those dirty comodo fuckers please.
Just want to mention that the viewing figure for yesterday in the UK was 7.5 million! (And supposedly 600 million worldwide) That’s a pretty big audience that willingly watched a sport compared to 300 protesters.
And yet when they do an hour on such as LBC, virtually every caller is anti. I know they might be skewing that but I am going to be honest, I am disappointed by the fact that people inside the industry just don't put an argument up.
It might seem like its just a radio show, but it has million of listeners. Racing people need to start voicing their opinion on such as LBC Jinny.
If they don't, I am really worried that NH racing will be squashed
Len, you are entitled to your opinion, you don't have to think you are on a side. You believe what you believe. I would have to ask you though, surely you should be against NH racing and want it banned? Is that a fair question to you?
I think you’re right - time for me to stop betting on the jumps. I’ve actually talked myself into that position.
But no more Cheltenham. “Very sad face”
Share your concern, Len, in company with the vast majority of owners and trainers whose first desire is that their horses come back safe and sound. Life is risky, though, and I think being born a racehorse gives you a considerably better chance of living it out than being born in the wild on the plains of Africa, even if jumping is your game.
It’s not all about betting, either. People flock to see Constitution Hill, not to bet on him (the bookies make sure of that), but to see a magnificent horse crush all that can be thrown at him and they flock to Cheltenham in their thousands because that’s where the best of the best congregate to race - they could have a bet from anywhere.
