First season sires and other 2-y-o stuff 2014

Good luck with them. It's possible that the late developing ones will be the best ones! Let us know when the furthest forward has his first run.

First season sires and other 2-y-o stuff 2014

Following Dick Whittington's win in today's Phoenix Stakes (I think it's the first G1 for a first season sire), I wonder how your Rip Van Winkles are doing, Miesque. I think you mentioned at some point that they were backward types - how are they coming on?

    Irish Guineas

I agree, Nora, this is probably his best chance of getting a 10f win. Also, doesn't Magician prefer good or g/f ground? If only the ground were goodish, I think My Titania would hose up in the 1000, but Oxx has said that they'll wait for Ascot if it's soft as expected.

    Irish Guineas

I'd guess ROTW will go for the Coronation Cup and the King George and Queen Elizabeth. Magician may go for the Prince of Wales after the Tattersalls. Re the Irish Guineas I had thought that War Command might make amends, but with the ground going soft (or at least softish), Kingman looks a...

    Al Kazeem

Mastercraftsman - nice. But obviously a much later foaling date than you had planned for your mare. Re Al Kazeem's return: I wonder what the record of failed stallions returning to race is. Obviously Kingsgate Native has done and continues to do well, but of course he's been gelded. George...

    Al Kazeem

Didn't you send a mare to Al Kazeem, Miesque? Was she one of the 30 per cent-ers or did you then send her to another stallion?

    Ballydoyle 2yo 2014

We'll soon hear from Aidan praising the Rip Van Winkles. I read somewhere that four of them were in training at Ballydoyle - not very many considering he's Coolmore's standout first season sire. Wish Rip all the best though, and he's co-favourite with Zebedee to be champion first season sire.

    First Season Sires 2013

Thanks very much for your season-long efforts, Colin. It's been a very close and interesting contest this year with Dandy Man cutting out the early running and Intense Focus and Mastercraftsman coming through with quality horses from mid-season onwards. I hope all three can go on from their...

    Ballydoyle 2yos 2013

Some really nice prospects there. Maybe our picking is improving!:D Would be interesting too if we were able to have a similar look at Richard Hannon's 2yos, but not sure if anyone on here could do that and how much trouble it would be.

    First Season Sires 2013

Agree, del boy. I think My Titania has a real shot at the 1000, but there were quite a few nice ones that could prove very nice next year. And there are bound to be a couple of decent ones that haven't raced yet.

    Ballydoyle 2yos 2013

Thought it might be fun to reflect on how our picks performed (or not) this year. The prize goes to trudij - well, no prize but kudos, esp. for getting in there first with Australia, or did someone pick War Command? Mine was Mekong River, who, even though he was 3 for 3 (Winning his maiden...

Seconded or thirded or whatever is appropriate. Thanks so much, DG. Definitely gave an additional frisson to the week's racing.

    Ballydoyle 2yo 2012

Thanks, Miesque. An inauspicious debut unfortunately. I wonder why this horse owned by Tabor and Smith is with David Simcock. 'My' Ballydoyle 2 year old Mekong River made his debut last week and 'won'. Actually neck second but placings reversed. Doesn't appear to have any fancy entries.

    Irish Derby

With both Ocovango and Flintshire in his yard Fabre seems content to keep Intello to shorter distances for the time being - has suggested the Jacques le Marois as his next target. The Grand Prix de Paris could prove an interesting race this year if any of the Irish horses join the French...

    Ballydoyle 2yos 2013

Thanks very much for this, Sequoyah. Don't worry, jinnyj, Terrific's name is at least positive. What about Perhaps? Mine's called Mekong River, which doesn't inspire me with a whole lot of confidence. I notice there's a Gypsy King, which was also the name of one of Ballydoyle's...

    Irish Derby

Will we see Telescope and Kingsbarns before the end of the season? At least we've heard a bit from SMS, but the silence from Ballydoyle is deafening.
