Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

That was definitely what Paul Carberry thought.

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

I have always thought perhaps unfairly that had Lester ridden El Gran Senor and Dancing Brave they would both have won the Derby.

    Arse Cup

I am amazed that Rupert Bell was never down as a contender for the Arse Cup - I know he fortunately only appeared on very minor media but his idiocy and cringeworthy behaviour Thommo would have been proud of.

    Arse Cup

Watching ITV the other day it was good to see Arse Cup wise they still have a Grade 1 arse in Luke Harvey .

    Arse Cup

There are some new contenders- Megan Nicholls and James Millman have thrown their hats into the ring albeit they are in the beginners chase compared to Thommo . It has been a joy to look back at the early pages of this thread . Good to see some posts from dear Krizon who tells me she has just...

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

Dawn Run for the first mare’s allowance and catching dear Wayward Lad up the hill. I think those desperately hard races in the Cheltenham and Punchestown Gold Cups broke Bravemansgame.

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Any news on Rachael Blackmore’s neck injury ? All gone rather quiet . Hope her recovery going ok .

    Ebor 2024

It’s a disappointing field . I hate that three year olds are excluded now from running in it .

    I’m not feeling it....

It needs to get a refurb ! I hate the new seat for a season business where other members were stopped from sitting in empty seats in December because a woman complained . It should be like the trains if the reserved seat owner doesn’t turn up. The vast majority of seat for a season buyers would...

City of Troy.....think he deserves his own thread!

I think it’s a shame that AOB has not let the horse do the talking . Wednesday was impressive but I am far from sure C of T would beat the runner up at Longchamp over 12f . The Breeders Cup Classic idea is depressing . Risking a horse like C of T on dirt strikes me as greedy. He already is their...

    Edward Hide RIP

His autobiography is full of editing errors but an entertaining read. There is a funny story from Lester’s comeback . Walwyn had sent Northern Hal to run at Baden Baden in a listed race but was struggling to find a jockey when he discovered Lester was out there riding Showbrook for Richard...

    Sunday 11 August Deauville

Inspiral ran a great deal better on Sunday . Reckon jocking Shoemark off now makes it easier to call on Dettori for the Breeders Cup. Shoemark is a sound jockey but he is no Dettori or Buick.

    I’m not feeling it....

I am close to not renewing my membership after 20 years . I see Renton is off but his replacement is from a non racing sport though I understand he might have had some involvement . The lack of confidence in the racing product was what I found most depressing .

    Oisin Murphy

I cannot quite make sense of this story today . Are jockeys warned in advance they are going to be tested ? Unless that is the case and he was unwell ( and I suppose haemorrhoids could if bad enough be difficult for a jockey) why is he being referred to the BHA ?

    Royal Ascot 2024

I bet Shoemark is hoping Lanfranco isn't coming over.

    Coronation Cup.

Heavens I bet Gosden misses Dettori.

    Cheltenham Festival: Friday Races

On heavy ground maybe - I think Kauto would have far too many gears for GDC on better ground .

    I’m not feeling it....

it started this season - although not quite at those prices clearly Michelin star prices and looked pretty empty. I suspect Cheltenham ignored the pandemic bounce effect of the 2022 Festival and thought they could charge what they liked and the last two years have been a nasty surprise.

    I’m not feeling it....

Definitely the worst Festival I have ever been to . Of course there were lots of great races but lots of depressingly uncompetitive ones too. Heavy ground obviously compromises it . The race day experience as they like to call it was also much the worst . It was as if they had little confidence...

    I’m not feeling it....

I understand the feeling . The greed of Jockey Club racecourses is appalling and the golden goose is looking poorly. I have been an annual member since 2003 and not missed a day since Best Mate’s first Gold Cup but am seriously considering not renewing my membership . The latest greedfest is the...
