Got to give credit to Golden Horn's connections for going for it... it was a tough ask for a horse competing at the top level since June... and full credit to the horse, he contested and very nearly won group 1's in 4 different countries in the same season, something no Derby winner had ever...

It's the achievement that would have been great... Derby, Eclipse, Irish Champ, Arc and Breeders Cup... that would have been something very special... I'm going to buck the trend on this thread... I'm afraid I'm rooting for AP... First Triple crown winner to ever contest a Breeders Cup race...

Well done the winner... I do think the ground helped her... but personally I wish she hadn't won... :(

I've not a penny on him either... if anything I'm tempted to lay... but I think this is a just race to watch and enjoy and hopefully see a horse achieve something that's very difficult...

Getting nervous... come on Golden Horn... even the great Dancing Brave couldn't manage the Arc/Breeders double... would be an outstanding achievement

You and me are reading mostly from the same page :) Peintre Celebre's Arc was so strong, Pilsudski, Swain and Helissio... 3 genuine 130+ horses... and he just pulverised them.... A real genuine superstar performance...

It's a tough Devils advocate job to disagree with you EC1 and you argue the case convincingly... but I still think Zafonic's Guineas win was more impressive and possibly El Gran Senor's as well, just like I think Miesque's mile achievements were greater than Frankel's... but I certainly don't...

I agree with you EC1 100%... go back two more years and in 1968 we had Sir Ivor, Vaguely Noble and the very under-rated Royal Palace. I'm going to disagree with you on the Guineas one, I still think Zafonic's Guineas win was more impressive, that's not saying I think Zafonic is the better horse...

Frankel was a monster... I still remember the Guineas so well... I always thought Zafonic was the most impressive Guineas winner I ever saw... but Frankel was the only one that made me say "WTF" by half-way...

LOL.. Frankel and Treve... What price would it fetch in the sales ring ?? I just watched the Sea the Stars Eclipse again... he was a wonderful horse... but surely that couldn't be the performance he was rated 140 for... that would be madness ??

It's fascinating to look back and see how they were rated with hindsight.... and how did Sinndar and Lammtarra fare ?? Anyone know who Treve is planned to be sent to to create little Treve jnr :)

Many thanks for that :) TBH I'm a little surprised by some of those numbers... for which race did Sea the Stars earn a 3 pounds higher rating than Peintre Celebre ? I used to follow the handicapping religiously and do my own speed ratings, the moment I started focusing on the conditions...

Is there a website with the official ratings over the years... My mind still defaults to the older system for ratings (which it appears to me were slightly higher) and I stopped paying attention to them for betting purposes years ago and I'm not sure where 134 fits in with previous champions ?
