2 Mile Chasers 20/21

A lot of the races at the festival look like one horse versus the field now.

I'd have to see that again, and yes he was knackered, and not saying he would have won, but seemed he picked up when the lose horse came along side/went past him? As long as he is okay is the main thing. Better going left handed maybe?

Strange race.

Take the winner out and all the TV people would have been raving about how Altior 'does what he does', ie power away late after not going well at times, beating an Arkle winner in style, etc, etc.

I'll crunch some numbers during the week but I suspect the winner might be very good indeed.

Didn't think it was a bad run, better 1st run of the season than last year

He was finishing as well, if he gets beat on better ground and a left handed track not until then can he be written off

Altior looked booked for 3rd but then that old gear that won him so many races kicked in

They must have been pleased with that...could still play a big part in the Champion Chase

Apologies if wrong.

Pretty sure I read a stat on Twitter that more odds on shots get turned over than win.

12 from 22 since 2014 with the last 3 getting turned over. I wouldn't read anything into it tbh. If the record is bad now then it was brilliant 3 losers ago at 12 from 19.

That stat will likely jump this year.

We could maybe on for 5 off top of my head

Shishkin
Envoi Allen
Chacun Pour Soi
Easyland
Sir Gerhard
Monkfish

Think they are the potential ones right now. The last two would need to hack up again before March.

The biggest shock is how competitive the mares races are right now but plenty of scope for that to flip too..

I'm not overly sure what to make of Altior's run today. Yes, he finished off his race as he usually does, and when they came swinging round the last bend, I knew he would be there or there abouts, but he was being scrubbed along from a long way out. I can't remember Nico being after him so far out previously (correct me if I am wrong), and it looked like an Altior without spark and buzz.

I still expect him to go and win the Game Spirit, but get turned over by Chacun Pour Soi come March. Can see the latter coming back to Altior towards the finish but still finish 3 or 4 lengths ahead of him.

He hasn't been the ALTIOR we pretend him to be for a few years. He has been relatively consistent for me. Beating up Sceau Royal is what he does. Just ran into one with a touch of class, best fresh perhaps and from a stable in huge form. You can only reframe the 'flat spot' as 'what he always does' for so long before it catches up with you.

Nicky said no to retirement

Can't see any reason why they would.

I thought Sprinter put up one of his best ever performances in his last race and they retired him
but then he was a National Monument and it was nice to go out on a winning note

Altior has never reached those heights so I assume they will run him until winning again looks impossible and the well dries up....

Agree. Altior's performance against the usual suspects was reasonably consistent. He just couldn't handle the winner, who looks very useful to me.
