2000 Guineas

I see Monitor Closely is now shorter at Betfair than with one or two bookies. That strikes me as unusual for a likely non-runner.

How about "Swine Flu claims Guineas meeting - Shock - World Health Organisation urges that we Monitor Closely"

Read yesterday that Godolphin are likely to run Ashram on Saturday with Shaweel likely to head to France for the French 2000, according to Simon Crisford although can't be sure how accurate that info is.

Thanks, Steve M. I'm surprised that the 2000 Gns has been such a good race for dosage analysis. I thought its main application was for races over longer trips.

The line in your article about the Guineas often being said to be the last major race of the two-year-old season is interesting. I think what is meant by this is that horses that won't be training on can sometimes hang around long enough to still be competitive at this early stage of the season. Intense Focus could be such a horse.

Regarding Mastercraftsman, I am always wary at this time of year of horses whose form has tailed off at the end of their juvenile season until they can prove it was just end of season tiredness. I might be wrong, but I suspect it gives him an extra negative stat he has to overcome.

Yesterday the clerk was saying that they've watered it to get it on the "Good side of Good To Firm" and that with dry weather expected over the next couple of days it should be spot on for Saturday.

I think Meehan might have his bluff called.

Does It F*ck Shocker!

Give me swine flu. It couldn't make me feel any sicker.

I have to have a small bit of sickness insurance on the other Bolger horse now, even if it is likely to find this far too short.

Who the hell does he think he is? To not make any indication he was considering not declaring the horse in the run up to the race is unforgivable. He has no respect for anyone in the game but himself. I nearly backed the horse myself last week but I left well alone, thank god.

He'll probably pony Gam Amhras to the start and delay it by about 20 minutes too.

Same. If you back one of his AP you have to factor in his quirkiness. If he pulls Guis Chaire out of the 1000 i`ll just shrug and say Oh Well.

Quirkiness is one way of putting it. I'd describe it as contempt for absolutely everyone else in the sport.

There was no indication at betfair either. He was steady in the market all the way.

I'm not going to attack the trainer. After all, I got New Approach at a 3-figure price for teh Derby just a few days before the race!

And Monitor Closely appears to be a runner after all...

Gan Amhras may well turn out to be another Golan. If he's better than IF (but it would be nice to know if it's a late injury that's behind the running plans) he must be a bit special.
