2016 Gold Cuppin

True but the feeling I got was that he was absolutely tanking and he breezed past Djakadam and Don Cossack. I think he'd have gone clear and would have taken some catching.

I do feel Paddy got a bit excited, should have sat in and waited but that's racing. He's ridden a few more winners than I have.

one thing about this race i know for a fact is..its no use going well 3 out..the race just starts then..look at SC ,,jumped the last and stopped as though shot..it just kicks in..and everyone has him down as an out and out stayer

It will be interesting to see how Don Poli is campaigned going forward if, as Mullins says, "he's more of a National horse".

You're right of course, it's anyone's guess. I just have the feeling he would have stayed and there would have been no stopping him today, but it can only be that, a feeling.

Don Cossack looked good there - he is a gorgeous horse, gutted for Cue Card and the Tizzards though - at least he is OK which is the main thing

Congrats to Don Cossack & all his supporters.

Not one bit impressed by Davy Russell & his tactics tho on Don Poli. Was he trying to ride him for speed holding him up? He's never been ridden for speed in his life!! Always handy. Still on that performance he prob wouldn't have beaten cossack. Would've liked to be given a chance to see tho.

to be fair..it looked to me like they went too fast..the race didn't end up as a speed test and any horse held up was really in the right place

if DP had run closer to that pace he would have emptied real fast..just imo..he needs others to come back..they didn't because they are better horses that could sustain the pace..and still finish..DP needs tired lesser hosses to run past..he had tired ish one here..but not inferiors

the winner is a very good hoss..if i had any sense i would have got me KG money back,,,last year when i said he was a 180 hoss i got laughed at..that Aintree performance was immense

Don Cossack jumped well, travelled well, picked up well when and never faltered at any stage. Ex win from a top class horse

Djakadam ran a bit better than I thought but he is terribly one paced.

Cue Card going well but a long way from home and no one can stay if he would have seen the trip out including the jockey.

Don Poli form wasn't there to start with. Simply didn't have the mid race pace to close when asked and totally outclassed.

Smad Place lacklustre effort but probably would have been beaten even further in the Ryanair

Very surprising DO considering he was having such a good time of it. To be fair he didn't expect too much of Smad Place saying he was 100% last time and unlikely to improve. Possible Yanworth may have been over the top but there's no getting away from it he met a very good horse of WPM's who looks a bit special too

if i remember rightly..the Foxhunters is usualy about 11/12 seconds slower than the GC..last year Coneygree beat it by 17 seconds..which was immense....this year Don has beat it by 18.7 seconds..pretty immense performance without looking too closely yet at the times

they didn;t seem to hang about in the foxhunters and the winner is rated higher than most winners of it

Don't you think you should just admit you were wrong and not try to blame Davey Russell who is one of the best around?

Just about everyone agreed the horse was out of his class and too slow in this company..more chance they were right than DR got it wrong don't you think?

Well to be fair that's easy to say in hindsight. But I think to be fair from your posts you gave DP a squeak!! You had him bang there in mist of your analysis!! I'd have liked the horse to be ridden as he has been in all of his chases before to give him a chance. Hardly too much to ask!!?

Smad Place will win more chases, probably not at the festival, but elsewhere for sure.
They should keep his mark down now for another crack at the Hennessy, and hope one or two of the big guns don't show.

My feeling during the race was that DP just couldn't go the early pace and it wasn't anything to do with the ride he got.
