2021 2yos including Colin's First Season Sires

I am wondering if today is the day for Geodesic (Navan 1.55). He made a promising debut at the Curragh when the stable's second string. The grey Caravaggio colt was given an 'educational' introduction, missing the break, making gradual headway throughout the race and finishing well to finish fifth just under 5 lengths behind the winner. 25/1 on debut he is available at 3/1 at the moment.

Three quickfire FSS winners today. Burke's Sophie's Star gave Cotai Glory another winner at Thirsk. In Ireland AOB had another Caravaggio winner when The Entertainer won at Navan while young Mr Boughey had another winner, this time with the Aclaim filly Cachet. This winner won easily and gave Aclaim his first win.

The two 2yos that made big impressions last week (to the pundits) were Hannon's Gisburn and Boughey's Cachet. Both are by FSSs.

After a quiet couple of days for FSSs Ardad has another as Boughey/Ryan/Beautiful Sunshine take the first at Sandown for Beautiful Sunshine's second win.

Update on the table of First Season Sires:

ARDAD Runners 15 Runs 25 Wins 9
CARAVAGGIO 12 - 20- 5
COTAI GLORY 19 - 32 - 5
PROFITABLE 14 - 20 - 4
RIBCHESTER 7 - 12 - 2

El Kabeir had his second winner with the victory of Masekela for Balding at Goodwood. Nicely bred he traces back to a Moller family.

Lots of races but only one FSS winner and that's Fellowes Eve Lodge at Lingfield This win takes Ardad to double figures.

Looking through the winners today I noticed the first at the Curragh was won by a Bolger filly called She's Trouble by a sire called Fracas and I thought he might be a FSS. None of it: Fracas has enjoyed 13 seasons at stud in Ireland and is now 19. I didn't recognise him but he wasn't a bad colt finishing 4th in the Derby having won the Derrinstown and the Classic Trial (presumably Sandown) back in 2005. He's not badly bred either being by In the Wings out of a mare whose dam is Sorbus, who was second in just about every race she ran in as a 3yo. She's also happens to be the dam of Bahamian who is an important Juddmonte foundation mare. This became the family of Oasis Dream and Kingman. Fracas appears to have had only about 30 foals in his relatively long career.

I notice Bolger owns a leg. I wonder if he's found a diamond in the dust?

Monday

Galileo Gold gets off the mark with the victory of Oscula at Brighton. The filly is trained by that man Boughey again.

I thought Hello You was quite impressive at Wolverhampton yesterday. In what looked a decent race Ralph Beckett's Invincible Spirit filly burst clear inside the final furlong to win by six and a half lengths, in behind there was a Gosden, Owen Burrows and a well-supported Dascombe filly. Hello You could well show up well at Ascot next month.

Sandown Thursday: Ebro River gave Galileo Gold his first win and winner and now by winning the National Stakes gave him his first Listed winner. He is appropriately trained by Hugo Palmer. Royal Ascot bound I'm sure but whether it's a 5f race or the Coventry Stakes should be an interesting decision.

Fitzdares have priced this up according to Irish Field today.
They provide figures for live foals GB/Ire as follows
Profitable 3/1 124
Caravaggio 4/1 131
Churchill 4/1 124
Cotai Glory 5/1 124
Aclaim 8/1 109
Ribchester 10/1 103
Ulysses 10/1 85
El Kabeir 12/1 110
ARDAD 20/1 87
Galileo Gold 20/1 102
Highland Reel 20/1 116
Postponed 50/1 72
Time Test 50/1 69
Almanzor 100/1 38
Decorated Knight 100/1 40
National Defense 500/1 27
Zarak 1000/1 14

Someone has 1000 Cotai Glory at 5/1 for more Tally Ho success according to report.

Looking at this post I have no idea why Ardad stands out in CAPITAL LETTERS, someone must have been trying to say something to me !

Cotai Glory gets one back with the victory of Dig Two (Hugo Palmer) at Chelmsford.

What counts against Ardad is his relatively small number of 2yos. However Cotai Glory and Profitable have had more runners so far and are trailling him in wins.
