Discussion on a recent thread (This Forum Not As Popular?) showed that many of us would like to see a programme of more regular competitions on the forum. Since then a few members have said they will help set up and run such a programme, but input is needed from all the membership.

Anyone who wants to get involved should make themselves known, either by direct response on this thread or by PM. Participation can come in various ways: some people have little time but are willing to put something towards a prize, whilst others are handy at processing entries, keeping scores or even writing programmes to help with these tasks. Suggestions for new competitions are also needed.

The hope is to move quickly, and be ready to announce a new programme in time for Galway-Goodwood next week, for which we have already announced a competition.

Every year I hope to do the Ballydoyle 2yo competition.

Runs from March to November, with a €100 prize fund.

Every two years, I hope to do the Euro Champ / World Cup competition. The prize for that is €100/€50/€25.

I would also like to run an annual competition at Aintree Grand National weekend. I don't want to step on anyone's toes if they have a good idea for this particular weekend. Again, I will pony up €100 for the winner.

All of my prizes are for the charity of your choosing.

I would like them to be enshrined as annual (biennnial for the football comp) events in the forum's constitution.

I will be running an all-sports Bet Idol competition, prizes and dates to be confirmed (to avoid other comps) but likely to be in January.

Very, very generous of all of you - in both money and time given. Will these be inter or intra forum comps?

Don't think I want the stress of running any competitions but I am prepared to put up some prize money for the Fantasy Football thingy - £100 to the winner or shared between the top 2,3 or 4. Whatever is preferred.

I'm also happy to help with scoring etc, or if anyone would like a program to calculate scores for any competitions I'll do my best to provide one.

I'll happily play with excel sheets to work out results

Great. Work it out so I can win :D

Winning Ways Racing will sponsor a 2012 annual badge (to the value of say €200 - enough for an Irish annual badge, not sure about UK). Only condition is that it must be a jumps meeting (you know how much I hate the flat!!). I'll also put up a prize of a morning in Colm Murphy's yard with lunch afterwards somewhere nice (if I can find it!!). Might be a pick and mix prize.

I could do an add-on for British-based winners or placers - the money going to their charity of choice, with a visit to a racing yard like Gary Moore's for them and/or a day at Lingfield, Epsom, Plumpton, Folkestone, Fontwell Park or Goodwood. (Brighton will be over when the comp finishes, I think, and we've really only got a couple of 'good' races.) I'm too poor to offer money but I could manage these!

So far, we have the following comps with prizes attached

Ballydoyle Juveniles (Bar The Bull)
Euro 2012 (Barry The Bull)
Bet Idol (Betsmate)
Fantasy Football (Del Boy/Granger)
Galway-Goodwood (Grey)

We have offers of admin help from Miesque, New Approach and Swedish Chef.

We have offers of prizes from Cantoris, Colin Phillips and Krizon. Two other people have also said they will put up or help obtain a prize.

Suggestions for other comps have included a season long Cheltenham competition. Starting in the autumn, participants would have a monthly budget to be used on ante post bets on the Festival.

Other choices would be the major meetings through the year, a year long comp to run on weekends, and a prize for punter/tipster/pundit of the year based on overall performance in forum competitions.

Some people (Krizon, Granger) have suggested collecting an entrance fee. I think most people, however, would prefer to do without the hassle involved and it looks like we could get by without resorting to it.

I will put together a prize of a "hamper" of sports books, including one lovely book about Arkle.

Am in joined in the fantsy league btw:cool:

I am unwilling to contribute any prize money or help with administration in any way, shape or form. As a gesture, however, I will compete in these competitions with some limited enthusiasm.
