This thread was launched around this time last year. Since then there have been some new competitions such as On The Bridle and Slim Chance's naps competition last autumn and the Cheltenham ante post competition sponsored by Roddy and Grasshopper and run by New Approach and myself. There have also been competitions of longer standing such as Colin's fantasy football and Bar's Euro 2012 and Ballydoyle juvenile competitions.

Competitions are not the be all and end all of a forum, but they help. Membership seems to be up by around 20% and active membership by around 50% since this time last year and I think some of that is thanks to the competitions. More important than numbers though is that there has been plenty of fun, thanks to those who have sponsored, organised, entered and bantered.

The next competition on the horizon is Galway-Goodwood, which I'm willing to sponsor again. I'm wondering, though, if it might be better to run a naps competition instead, starting in G-G week and ending on Arc weekend?

That could lead into the start of a mid-Oct to end of year naps competition like last year's, the the Cheltenham ante post comp and the fantasy football.

What do people think?

Sounds fab - the Cheltenham comp was really good (even allowing for my bias!) and gave a fun interest to the whole of the winter.

Can see a lot of people being into the naps comp too - thankyou for sorting and running these things guys and girls :)

I will fund the Cheltenham Ante-Post compy to the tune of a Centurion again, if it gets off the ground.

I wasn't called on for my sponsorship last NH season and happy to do something this season. I'm considering a last man/woman standing competition where a race is picked each weekend (might be a conditions race one week and a handicap the next but won't be picking big field races as the idea is to get four or five weeks out of it). Over a few months we should end up with four or five different winners and they can go into a "final" comp over crimbo, or something like that.
