Aintree - Other Races

I’ll be interested in No Looking Back (hopefully goes in the Top Novices and 14/1 available) as I think he’ll be underrated due to connections and it was no mean feat LTO trying to concede the penalty,

Yeah an interesting one for sure.

He has entries on the Friday and Saturday and also at Punchestown.

Lets see if and where they declare him at Aintree.

Betfair are miles out of line with the 12s about Grey Diamond in the Red Rum Handicap on Thursday.

I took some 14s last night without NRNB but have just gone in pretty heavy at 12s with that concession

Agree, Lee. Had backed him NRNB for a couple of Festival races, and naturally completely fu*cking missed him running at Haydock the week after (I was somewhat jaded, to be fair).

Quicker ground a slight worry, perhaps, but have backed him nonetheless (appears to be top-priced 10/1 now, you hungry bas*tard :)).

Spoke to Chris Barber yesterday about Famous Clermont in the Foxhunters and they are very much looking forward to him running there. He failed to stay in the soft ground at Cheltenham but if you review the race, until he hit the hill and emptied on the ground, he looked all over the winner. Over the shorter trip, the ground shouldn’t be a problem (I did ask). I also asked if he had schooled him over National type fences but he said he hadn’t as he’d rather let the horse work it out himself which surprised me...apparently it’s not considered so much of a “thing” to have to familiarise themselves now the fences are easier. He’s done plenty of showjumping schooling though to focus him so perhaps he’ll be heading to Hickstead next...

I am totally convinced on this flat track, the extra distance and the ground being near perfect for him Nico will not be pulling any punches and there will be no easing down.

All we need is for some bookie or exchance to offer 2/1 for 10 lengths or more and it will be like all our birthdays have come at once.

Has anyone seen any prices on this?

FYI, if you read the Post article on the Bowl this morning, and think you can get 7/2 Shishkin with Hills, they’re actually 3/1.

That said, they do seem to be taking a stand against him, and tightening-up on APT, so it may pay to hang-fire if you’re inclined to back him. If I can see any 7/2 about him, I’d be for rolling the dice myself.

I will be looking to lay A Plus Tard in the Win and Place markets if he shows-up in the Bowl. I thought he was already beaten when meeting some trouble in the Gold Cup, and disagree with the suggestion (in some quarters) that he was a little unlucky at Cheltenham. This is a quick enough turnaround for a horse that's had problems this season, and I can see him blowing-out badly.

I’d agree that APT didn’t look like a potential winner of the GC when he was hampered. Rather he looked to have been caught a bit flat footed and he’s not for me at 7/2.

I hope they do keep shortening him up as that could mean better prices about the others

Neither am I convinced by BMG or Shishkin but Ahoy Senor or Conflated may be drifting to prices I could get involved at

I'm also tempted a little by Shishkin at the odds but the safer option is surely a place lay on BMG. He's run like stink twice here.

Agree, Aintree's a much sharper track than Kempton, and not at all in his favour.
Will suit Shishkin admirably for this step up in trip and, with the ground likely in his favour, looks a solid bet, imo.

20+ is 5/2 with Hills. Possible?

Nico won't even start to push the button until after they've jumped two-out. He'll win unextended on the bridle - again - and whilst it's a long enough run-in, they won't knock him about in any way, because they won't need to.

That being the case, the 5/2 for 20+L seems about right.

Bravemansgame out.

Bravemansgame was ruled out of Thursday's Grade 1 Aintree Bowl on Wednesday evening following an intervention by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) prohibiting him from taking part.
