Ante-Post Punting Plans/Propositions Thread.

Some interesting races this weekend in England and Ireland.

The Trump threads gone quiet.

Anyone want to get stuck in with a proper early anaylisis of this weekends action?

I'm curious about Thunder Rock back over hurdles but trying to beat Golden Ace could be a big ask....

Although Golden Ace is also in the Fighting Fifth.... So perhaps Rocky can have his cake and eat it.

The progressive Catch Him Derry could be a bet in the Stayers Handicap hurdle at Haydock. However Doyen Quest looked to have way more in hand on Saturday than the 5lb penalty he shoulders here so enthusiasm tempered as Skelton will surely turn him out again carrying stable hopes

Rain comes, I'll be running my pen through half the field in the betfair. That 25s at Ladbrookes about Limerick Lace would look pretty big then, if she came over.
Very promising before a strange tilt at the National. I might have a little on at the price.

Can't believe Nicholls is going to run BMG again in this.

Conny drifts to 13/8 for the Fighting Fifth after a workout.

Nicky says he fine and happy with him.

The stable entries are down to four. DQ has been raised 10lbs so will be 5lbs well in under his penalty. At the moment Skelton is down to take the ride.

Tristan Durrell jocked up on Catch Him Derry. Took some 8/1 so happy to see that and he’s in to 13/2 so optimistic he’ll run and forecast rain won’t hurt

Well this fellow runs so that’s almost as good as a win for an AP bet the way mine have been going recently.
Not ante-post any more but Bravemansgame looks a bit overpriced in the Betfair chase. Hard to see him winning perhaps on the likely ground but first time blinkers can help his chance. PFN has adopted the headgear to great effect previously with Silvianaco Conti, Clan des Obeaux, and See More Business (for those with longer memories). I missed the 16/1 & 14/1 but 12/1 isn’t a bad price each way IMO with 9 lining up at this stage

I've taken Capodanno in that. Strange market with Royal P being so short (no chance imo) bringing us value in other places. I don't think Grey Dawning at 9/4 is too bad.

Capodanno is one of those horses who's unfortunately in too big a stable with an owner who has too many horses so he's never been sort of given a cogent programme. He was good in the Cotswold last season but was then asked to step down half a mile to the Ryanair which was never gonna suit and despite showing he didn't stay the previous year he was asked to run in the National again. Stupid. And to compound this stupidity he was let loose at Punchestown as well. If Willie has him ready here he'll be competitive.

I'm probably barking up the wrong tree again, but Gemirande could be an interesting longshot if he ran on Saturday.

He started off in handicao chases slowly slowly, getting beat at short odds, then his form picked up, when winning a couple of decent handicap chases. His overall profile is generally progressive year on year, although I've no idea what happend last season, as he didn't even start off until early March 2024, running a galllant fifth in the Grand Annual, and only had three runs in total last season, starting off in March.

He's lots to find on official ratings of course and must need several horses to drop out to get a run.

The hope would be he's summered well and has some extra improvement to show. I do think he's nicely handicapped off 128, but I suppose this would be a tough starting point for him this season against higher rated opponents.

Were he to run, that would be a swifter start to his season than in 2023/2024.when he only start in March. He's generally 33/1 but there is 50s in a place or two.

I think I'll wait nearer the time for the best each way terms.
Hacked up today I see.

Single figures now.

Thunder Rock is interesting back over hurdles. He'll need to be good to beat Golden Ace if she runs to her best. I read a quotation from Jeremy Scott that indicated Golden Ace would improve for the run though. Blueking is no mug at this distance either. Maybe Thunder Rock will have his way tomorrow.

Other thoughts for Saturday. Probably worth about 5 pence these, but anyway.

Dr T J Eckleburg in the 12.40 at Haydock. At some point I've stuck it in my tracker but I cannot remember the reasoning as to why. He seems a big old price here though, and capable on his day. I need him on side at the price.

In the 2.30, anyone who took 20s about One Big Bang a week or so ago is looking clever now, as he's into 7s. The trainer is in form, he's surely ahead of the handicapper, so can run really well.

Good luck all. If you can't make it pay, keep trying. God loves you.

I think he's battling it out with Royal Pagaille as the worst priced horse of the weekend. His win in this last year is terrible form (Supreme Leader hated the track) and I've backed Lucky Place who is 10lbs better off with Golden Ace from their Taunton run and who ran a stormer in the Coral Cup.

Best of luck fella.

I haven't placed my bet yet. I may swerve it altogether. Thunder Rock for me if the gun was at my head.

I do like your ones profile. He ran a great race at Cheltenham for a novice. Even more reason to just watch this event I reckon.

Grey Dawning is a lot stingier and I reckon there are others elsewhere.

As for this race, Ahoy Senor will be bit marmite for many but I have a suspicion that he might have improved a fair bit coming into this season. His reappearance run reads like it might well have been a career best and he reportedly looked likely to come on a good bit for it so he’s the main bet for me.

Doyen Quest has been taken out this morning. No reason offered so far.

He did, imo, have a harder than necessary race last week but the cynic in me can't dismiss the idea that there was never any intention to run him and that a stablemate was always their #1 hope.

GMB was one of my bets for that reason but it could well be CHD.

Good luck, viking. (y)

As expected with Doyen Quest out Harry Skelton has switched to Catch Him Derry. Personally think they had every intention of running DQ as 5lb well in and I’m sure the deterioration in ground conditions was the reason for withdrawing the horse

Dr T J really well backed, 20s last night into 10s and still shortening now. Looks like real money. Fingers crossed.

Cheers guys, just nice to put up one good winner for a change.

A nice start to the yankee today too.
