Batfair Hurdle

I am really warming to ASO for this he really appeals as a Schweppes Hurdle type......I know it's now called the Betfair Hurdle but there's something about this horse that appeals to me and tells me who could be an absolute thrown in off 10st4lbs

Not sure if she will run him but I am having a few quid on anyway before Kiama Bay runs

Anyone know if Mullins intends running Lucky Bridle?

In this case, I'm not sure if no news is good or bad.

Calipto has had a wind op which they think has sorted his issues. If it has then I would be even more confident he will hack up.

Not sure Calipto really had 'issues', did he?

He was unlucky (very) in the Triumph, the track/ground were probably against him at Aintree, and he didn't jump well enough at the Showcase meeting. If he does have 'issues' they might be in the jumping, rather than breathing, department.

Wouldn't put anyone off backing him though. Clearly has talent.

He did look to stop fairly quickly last time. Nicholls has said he thought his breathing was an issue so had the op. He's clearly smart. Myself thought maybe a battle or hard test is not what he wants hence my initial caution. But if the big man is correct and it is his breathing. He'll hack up imo.
Either way he'll be motionless approaching the last. We'll find out after that.

To be fair, Nicholls would probably try to give his Land Rover a breathing-op, if it didn't start first-time in the morning.

He mentioned the breathing op in his column a week or so back. Calipto was backed into fav right after that. I was just surprised it hadnt already had a breathing op as he does tend to do them by default rather than waiting for any "noise". I was blocked by "him" on twitter for qn his use of breathing ops. the big fat £$%^

Whilst I don't think 138 is necessarily a fantastic mark for BLAIR PERRONE on what he has done, based on his lightly raced profile (3 runs in novice/maiden hurdles), and the fact he beat Champion Bumper winner Silver Concorde, this Tony Martin trained animal could be 7 pound well-in that you'd want a horse to be for a race like this. He was clearly better at a left handed track in Leopardstown than Cork and Punchestown which are both right handed. He is entered in this race and at Leopardstown over the weekend.

From what RJ was saying on RUK I'd be surprised if Garde La Victoire was to run in the Betfair now, which leaves only Cheltenian for the Hobbs yard (I'm assuming Hello George won't get in). The yard likes a tilt at big handicap hurdles and interesting that this appears to be their best option now. IF GLV does run won't he get a penalty for today ?

i think re-naming the race "Batfair Hurdle" is a stroke of genius by Grass..i prefer it now after seeing the new name so often

Fascino Rustico looks like Skelton improver..won a big race last year with a similar type didn't he?

that zipp top form puts him well in here just on its own + is lightly raced so will be more to come.

not really looked at the race but this one stood out with a cursory glimpse at it

had a few teabags on at 15.0

I think the conditions state no penalty to increase weight above 11-12, DG, and he's already on that.

The race takes on a different complection if he doesn't run, and needs another look (I need another look, anyway).

Anyone know if there's a Robin Des Champs in the field?

Not very original but I'm on Calipto ew. Hard to see him unplaced.

I want rain and plenty of it but it's unlikely.

SOAV is grossly overpriced if the ground is good.

Can't have Calipto at the price , especially if the ground is good, he blew the race against Tiger Roll.

He hasn't run since and there not enough to go on to say he runs better when fresh.

I reckon he's just a bit of a dodgy horse who people are making excuses for when he loses.

I am still hoping ASO runs and the others I am interested in are On Tour and SOAV

Skybet are wonderful bookies they go 16/1 Dawalan who just won over 3 miles for a 2 mile race 7 days later...........desperados:blink:

More chance off John McCririck running in the race

Having spent some time having a look at the race this morning, my shortlist now appears to contain horses whose names start with the letter 'A'.

EC1, I'd be keen to hear your case in favour of Fascino Rustico. It's on my radar but is a bit short relative to its task at the weights, according to my figures.

I'm happy enough with the 16/1 I took about SOAV when the weights came out. I'm not worried about carrying top weight as much as I am about his getting suitable ground.

I also took a couple of longshots ew to small stakes this afternoon:

Bordoni 33/1
Swing Bowler 40/1

Both are certain to get in if connections want to declare them and both are, on my figures, handicapped on their best form to win a valuable handicap.
