Black Caviar

Surely she's coming over here to prove beyond any reasonable doubt that she is the best sprinter in the world?

 proving you're the best sprinter in England?

Would have been better going over to Ireland and beating Croisultan, Inxile & Luisant.

Not trying to be confrontational here but maybe that's the way people see it but what are you trying to prove by winning a sprint race here given we already know Australian sprinters are miles ahead so what has she proved in coming over here and winning? do you really think she'd confirm her status as the best racehorse in the world in the event of doing so?

No, personally that there's a little old bull at Warren Place who could of accepted one of the greatest challenges in recent decades but they are too concerned about her record - "Let's get over here and do what we came for, go back to Australia claiming she's the best in the world"

Funny how they are avoiding Frankel though.

She'll will probably come over a give us a hiding and there will be nothing we could do about it although what that would do for her career? not much, it's just a personal issue with the British from Peter Moody.

Personally, you want to come over here and shut us up about Frankel then run in the Sussex, no trip worries for her as she's never been of the bridle and if they are so obnoxcious about us running pacemakers they should set her off in front with Frankel chasing behind.

All though that's all a dream now because they bottled it - "not right for the horse" whilst winning a Golden Jubilee or Kings Stand is? why not go to Japan because that's a serious level of Racing over there.

Would be funny with the year of the Queen if we managed to lower her colors with Bated Breath or someone..

Bated Breath is dodging her - We could end up with a smallish field made up of mostly top handicappers because the best sprinters will go for the Kings Stand to give themselves a chance of winning.

If the two were ever going to meet it should have been over 7f as that would be the fairest race given their respective distance requirements.

Are Turftrax supplying sectionals at Ascot? There will no doubt be comparisons made if there are.

There are supposed to be sectionals at all Champions Series events this season I think. I, therefore, assume that there will be sectional timing equipment for the duration of the Royal meeting.

On the At The Races site:

Trainer Peter Moody has expressed fears the brilliant Black Caviar might not handle the draining flight from Australia to England.

He really really really doesn't want to bring her over. It's the owners that want to race her at Ascot. He's covering his own back. I'm not sure why she wouldn't handle the flight. Miss Andretti did, along with a swathe of colts from down under who lined up in the Ascot sprints.

When I was in Melbourne last year, I heard him talking on the radio saying he didn't see the point in sending her to Ascot for less prize money against worst horses she's been beating in Australia which is a fair enough statement when you think about it!

When you think she's a 570kg lump then I'd be all for anesthetizing her for the trip so that she wouldn't have a clue about the flight that's taken place and would imagine she'd still consider herself on Australian shores.

Moonlight Cloud returns tomorrow in a Longchamp Group 3 over 7 furlongs. Only got to improve 10-12 pounds on her best form to be a danger to Black Caviar!

Great to see Black Caviar being brought over but it's a shame we haven't got anything here to give her a race just to make it a bit more interesting.

Then again I suppose you'd have to go back as far as Dayjur to find a sprinter that we've had that could beat her.

The likes of Sheikh Albadou, Lochsong, Stravinsky, Mozart & Oasis Dream would probably not have been good enough. Although Oasis Dream was awesome in the 2003 Nunthorpe.

Has anyone booked their tickets yet?

Me and a fellow friend have been creating two banners to take with us at Royal Ascot and we're going to try and get on TV with them.

We're still indecisive about the messages although I've just gone ahead to start painting "Unlucky 22-1" on one of them which would be great if she got beat and all those people in Federation Square watching on the big screen wouldn't really like it.

Any suggestions what we should put on the other banner?

"Just a handicapper"
"Frankel's laughing"

Were on the shortlist.

Come and have a word Simon, be nice to meet you and you won't miss us with our signposts.

Other than to show of her undoubted talent there's no real reason for her to come to Ascot.

It's not like they can say she beat the best in Europe which is a dam shame.

Roger Charlton claims Bated Breath is the best he's ever trained but the first thing he did when they said she was coming is drop him back to 5 furlongs for the first time in a million years.

Still a bit of 1/2 going round which is unbelievable she'll be 1/8 on the day as they all head for the hills.

No matter, should be a fantastic sight to see even if only 1/2 dozen turn up

That suit makes her look like a member of the Aus swimming squad.

Seriously though, I haven't seen one before. What's its purpose?

It is supposed to perform exactly the same function as compression clothing does for human athletes. According to Wikipedia the benefits are:

Improving athletic performance by maintaining repeated jump performance
Reduce muscle movement and vibration and focus the direction of the muscle
Reducing the risk of sports injuries
Maintaining body temperature and moisture wicking
Reducing the build up of Creatine kinase which is an indicator of muscle tissue damage.
Reducing the time taken for muscles to repair themselves
Reducing muscle soreness during post workout recovery
As an alternative to compression stockings they can be worn during long flights to reduce the risk of Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) caused by pooling of blood in the lower legs

The above applies to humans but I think it is the same for horses. I haven't seen or heard of its use before either. Then again, a horse travelling doesn't often generate the same level of publicity.
