Black Caviar

I think that is the point though. If we had something good enough to give her a race we would know about it. That fact is that we have no idea who will turn up, who is the best of ours, who the precise conditions on the day will suit and so on. I don't think we've got anything within a million miles of her.

99% of me wants her to absolutely **** up to confirm the great horse that she is but there is a very small part of me that wants these arrogant Aussies to get stuffed to send them back down under with their tails between their legs. I can't for the life of me see that happening.

She shouldn't be coming over here if all she's doing is trying to make us honoured to see her because I'd rather not as we don't need to be force fed the publicity crap from Peter Moody that he's been pressured to run her.

Listen, you take her here only on racing terms on the basis that you like the race you're competeing in and if you feel it's one that could be achievable and right for the horse's career then go for it.

Don't bring your horse over here to try and emotionally blackmailing us into wanting to see this filly run because to be quite frank we have our own sport here which has our own superstars that capture the public's imagination and you can **** right back off to Australia with that attitude because you're not wanted.

It's early yet to be sure who is lining up. But the general standard here is much better than you imagine. On the day there will no doubt be a couple of dangers, or more.

C'mon Steve you are better than that. What are going to do bake them in the next month. They are all out there for everyone to see. Tiddliwinks an aptly named winner of this week's sprint. Who knows what next weeks flavor will be. One thing is for sure in a month it will be some very tasty Black Caviar.

I thought you were gone till after the Derby.

Had a day off from exams so I thought I'd come on and talk about today's racing, considering how some of the threads have been going since my departure I'd have thought some decent lengthy well thoughtout replies would be very much needed.

Can't stand all these one sentence replies and useless comments that could be saved for PM's rather than the actual interface of the website.

Whatever happened to that grp.1 performer Mayson today? Has he reached the unsaddling box yet? With opposition like that it really is an honour to have the one and only queen of speed show up next month for a couple of Big Mac's and shakes. Make mine strawberry please.

Deacon Blues put in two tasty performances last season at the Curragh and Ascot respectively. On current RPR ratings he'd be five or six lengths off Black Caviar by the time you take the mares' allowance into account, but I would expect that gap to be a lot smaller if they both turn up in the Jubilee.

There are two main reasons.

For one, in previous years Black Caviar was heading off on a winter break in mid May, not to reappear until October. Now she's being asked to prolong her season and travel across the world to take on Europe's best in mid to late June. This is not necessarily the case with all the Aus horses coming to Europe. Takeover Target, for example, had been racing at that time of year anyway

The other is that Deacon Blues might still be improving, it's not unheard of with five year old sprinters.

Oh Grey! you touched on the right horse here..

Deacon Blues like you said was an absolute star last year who absolutely battered the clock like no other British sprinter has done in decades which is testiment to the horses ability.

The biggest shame is that he's injured for the season and could have quite easily taken Black Caviar on this year in a grueling battle at Ascot but it wasn't too be.

Like you said he's fast improving sort and remains our best sprinter by a country mile but I hope they meet at some point down the line maybe in Dubai or America? it would be tragic for him not to be able to grab a Group 1 or be on the big stage where he deserves.

I know sprinting careers are long but injuries do hit sprinters hard and I hope he retains all that zest, enthusiasm and star quality.

****, I hadn't picked up on that news. What a shame.

Yep!

There is one or two lurking about I'm sure of it & I think there are a few good 3 year old sprinters around to come also but not Group 1 standard yet.

Do you remember Elzaam from last year? would be interesting to see how he's done with the winter on his back ironically bred by an Aussie sire Redoute's Choice..He was a strong imposing three year old bit like Oasis Dream and he hasn't been gelded yet to my knowledge so he's one to look forward too.

Based on her Newmarket Handicap I'd still make her favourite against the likely field even if she was giving them weight on handicap terms. She's firing out 130+ performances without Nolen ever having to get serious. The only other horse doing that is Frankel, so as everything else has to give her the Mares allowance, I can see her sauntering home by at least two lengths.

Hay List is at least as good if not better than all the recent Aussie winners and she laughed at him.

She won't be firing any 67 secs 6f at Ascot though, will she, particularly if the ground is testing.

I know I should really keep up with things, but ive not long got in from yet another mad long day at work and really cant face the searching...

What day is BC running at Ascot (presuming she gets here ok!) ?

Yes I am better than to get sucked in on a 1/2 shot at this stage from a different hemisphere.

Black Caviar is capable of very running consistently in the mid to high 120s. This of course is a very good standard and a few pounds clear of the next best, but is short of the second coming. If she’s off a little and one or two others from a handful capable of 120+ improve on their personal best it will be a race. It is absolutely wrong to believe all she has to do is turn up. She would probably need to run to close to her best to win. You’ll find a handful of the younger horses will run well beyond their current marks in this race and I don’t expect BC to be one of those that improves on her best. Worthy favourite, yes. Odds on chance at this stage? have a look at yourself.

I’ve not gone through the likely line up in any great detail yet (there are still up to around 60 of them to consider) but if you press me for alternatives at this stage look at Moonlight Cloud or Bated Breath. Horses like Sepoy and Foxwedge aren’t that far behind her on Australian form and are younger and improving. Society Rock, Krypton Factor. These set a good standard and are all double-digit prices between 14/1 and 20/1. There are more exotic choices if you are so inclined. BC has to give 4lb to the 3yo colts and 7lb to the 3yo fillies many of which will improve on their current marks. Boomerang Bob is 66/1 and actually ran the fastest single quarter of any of them in the Guineas before getting tired. Fire Lily is 50/1. Black Caviar is 1/2. Worth opposing? You bet she is. I’ll decide nearer the time on my choice.
