Cheltenham 2016

Grade 2 Mares novice hurdle at the 2016 festival - Mullins benefit race this one

You'd struggle to think of a less needed race than that. It truly is run by ar$eholes. Is everyone who runs racing just pissed ALL THE TIME!

Gotta keep adding a few races so they can justify the 5 day festival and get the gold cup Saturday that they are busting for.

Absolutely the right choice if you want to encourage NH breeders. If it does turn out to be a Mullins benefit it will be because he has seen this coming and bought fillies and mares when others haven't. I've got shares in 2 of them myself for this very reason so I'm well pleased.
Do those opposed to the idea think that the 1000 Gns and the Oaks should be scrapped?

Couldn't care less about 1000Gs or Oaks. Im against separation in NH...all power to the split arses. The Mares chase is also coming and will be in place for 2017.

The new race is to replace the charity race. If they did go to 5 days it would presumably be 5 x 6 races per day so only 2 more needed but I'd have thought that a mares bumper would be ahead of a mares chase in any pecking order.

BHA have already suggested Mares Chase to Cheltenham. Its coming after this season. 100%

Nail on head ! The mares chase will be followed by the Ryanair Hurdle over 2m 4f- 30 races and 5 days

EC1, if you take your argument to its logical conclusion, then you do away with spectator sport altogether.

There will always be a premium to watch top-end sport live at the venue (doesn't matter if it's the Festival, Wimbledon or the World Cup Final) and sitting opposite a hi-def telly is almost always going to give you a better view.

In fact, you can make exactly the same thing about Glasto, T in the Park and other music festivals too.

Or Crufts.

Generally people don't attend 'an event' for the view - they're motivated by other factors that cannot be replicated by sitting in front of a TV, dressed in bri-nylon, picking at your dandruff whilst they switch to Sedgefield. ;)

I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to the Cheltenham Festival to anyone.
Hear Hear! Virtual reality will be with us soon - why bother getting out of bed in the morning when you can strap on HD and see a better world. Sod going on holiday - queuing for flights with riff raff - just strap on your goggles....

I've watched the last umpteen GCs from the grass before the grandstand level with the finishing line without needing to use elbows or fend off louts - and is one of the best views - and best atmospheres - on earth. It's good on the tarmac, it's good in a stand, it's good in a box... It's just Christmas for grown-ups all round.

Avoid the Guinness village on the Friday and cheer up a bit - Cheltenham is a f#cking knockout [emoji7]

Question for the wiser than me: Why do they need to make it a 5 day festival in order to justify moving GC to the Sat?

If that's their aim why don't they just run the current timetable from Weds to Sat?

I don't think its anyone's aim to make it a 5 day festival, thats just the old McCririck talking bollocks on ATR.

No fu**ing need for a 5th day. Should be less not more.
As entertaining as Big Mac is, he does talk sh*te on some things, like the whip for instance.

If things get bad some day, and Cheltenham has to be reduced to a two-day festival, which dozen races would you keep and would you change the distance or conditions of any of them?

I'd get rid of all the handicaps, amateurs and bumper. All top graded races should stand, including the mares and juveniles.
