Thanks for the link, Perpetual. Informative and perhaps what I needed to rekindle my enthusiasm for the game.
I usually attend for the weekend, often with several family members, and would normally have some decent AP bets for this meeting as well as some for March. None for this weekend so far and relatively small bets for the Festival. Watching tonight brought back some good memories and has certainly given me some motivation to get down and do the work for the weekend.

6 finalists all to be given a horse.

Probably a 12 runner race and the horse with no one assigned will probably hack up. Decent offer though

Probably six PP office workers paid £100 to pretend to be ordinary punters taking part and maybe the winner gets an extra century.

The idea of PP giving away £1m is laughable. More chance of O'Leary giving Ryanair passengers free luggage and bevy.

Sounds like there could be crowds allowed at the December meeting after today’s news.

Pretty pissed off at the email they have sent members. Basically if numbers are restricted we have to enter a ballot to see if we can gain entry. Membership at this stage is down on usual at around 4700, my guess is Cheltenham will be put in tier 2 thus 2000 being allowed to attend . A lot of the 4700 will be in tier 3 and unable to attend so why they just don't spilt the days and offer 1 day to each member I don't know. To rub salt in the wounds the greedy feckers have said anyone who buys hospitality automatically get in with out having to go through the ballot process.

The hospitality thing takes the ****!
Also they mentioned getting a refund if you are unsuccessful in the ballot, so I would imagine that if you don't apply for the ballot then you won't be eligible for a refund.
You'd like to think that with the Tier system they may be able to accommodate the vast majority of members in Tier 1/Tier 2 who apply.

No way I'm paying for hospitality as this weekend is my least favourite of the three pre-Xmas meetings. But, tiers depending, will still have a go in the ballot for a chance of getting on a racetrack

4700 members have supported them despite knowing there was little chance of going racing. To tell them they will go into a ballot after people have paid for hospitality is nothing more than Covid profiteering, and an absolute disgrace. Everyone going into the ballot was the ONLY right thing to do.

They're no better than the rip off merchants that wanted to charge twenty pounds for toilet rolls or a bottle of hand sanitiser. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do they not realise that some of their members may have been made unemployed or have lost 20% of their wage. Others go as a family who they haven't been able to socialise with for the last month. They finally had something to look forward to, but have a significantly reduced chance of going when they couldn't afford to pay £150-£1000 a head for hospitality.

If I actually said the words that I currently think about the ********, this entire posts would just be asterisks!

Hospitality closes to members at 5pm today after that its opened to anyone, if they sell 2000 packages not one member will be going. I would guess members have the off chance of getting friday but no chance on the saturday. This is quite depressing news and a kick in the nuts for those of us that have capitalised the business during this crisis.

****! I was hoping the hospitality would be different (as in not included in the 2000).

I genuinely feel like trying to organise a members boycott. They have hit the absolute rock bottom with this.

If one non-member attends hospitality and reduces the number in the ballot I will send my membership back immediately, and I will also never set foot in the racecourse again.

I am making enquiring at the minute but it seem that a non member can buy hospitality after 5 pm today and guarantee to be there. I suggest we bin membership and go to tenerife to watch on tv if this is true

Definitely. If it's correct I'm finished with them. We'd save a bloody fortune too Brian!

Confirmed non members will be able to purchase hospitality after 5pm today but won't give numbers available

That's an excellent suggestion.

It reminds me of the time I was in Benidorm on one of my early spring solos. There were loads of Welsh guys and I was blethering with them in a sports bar (believe it or not) and asked them if Wales were in the area for a game (football? rugby?) and they told me it was cheaper for them to come to Benidorm for the weekend all-inclusive and watch it in a bar than go to Twickenham.

My kind of thinking.

Anyone know a good solicitor who happens to be a Cheltenham member?

So it seems that the hospitality figure is separate from the 2000 spectators.
However, out of the 2000 crowd the owners attending needs to be deducted.
Bizarre regarding the owners, as how do they know how many are going to attend, as the ballot ends on Monday 30th way before decs are made.

The hospitality figure isn’t separate from the 2000 Darren. The total 2000 will include hospitality, owners, and private boxes. I’ve not been able to find out if those that paid for the Insurance Bar have also been prioritised, but I’d imagine so. That will probably take around half the 2000 allocation on Saturday.

However, I called to book hospitality posing as a non-member. They are so far using the Panoramic Restaurant and the Gold Cup Restaurant, and said they would open up more facilities if/when they have numbers to support it, and they will put me on the waiting list as a non member and call me after prioritising members in hospitality first. You, I, and any general member who hasn’t booked hospitality will go into the ballot after hospitality has been filled with members and non members. If they open up another restaurant this will also come off the ballot numbers. Memberships have also gone up from 4500 to over 6000 since the announcement, so a a few thousand will be vying for a few hundred tickets, and the racecourse will have non-members in there.

In addition any non member can book hospitality at the Festival right now with no limitation. If the numbers are limited at the Festival we’ll be treated like **** for that too.
