Cheltenham Festival 2012: DAY 2

Wouldn't put anyone off backing Saphir River in the Coral Cup - if you think that the 129 Vendor is lenient for falling in a Grade 1 last time out then 139 for finishing runner up has to be right up your street, and for Hamm and co who are Spirit Son fans this fellow ran that horse to a head as a 3yo Hurdler a few years ago.

They've paid an absolute fortune for him and are biding their time with him until he goes Chasing next season - the trip of 2m 5f might be on the sharp side for him but he should handle the better ground and at least be staying on at the death, at 40/1 and with the 5 places he's most certainly worth a few quid of anyones money!!!!

Martin

Great spot.

Have put the mockers on this bunch....

Soll
Simonsig
Grands Cru
Finian's Rainbow
Balgarry, Featherbed Lane and Act Of Kalinisi
Vendor
Cool George

So many good looking things today, not as many shorties but enticing nonetheless.alle Garde, simonsig, grands crus should be eating this up,sizing too, carlito in the coral cup, vendor and edeymi-one well in and one in the book.Royal Guardsman wins the last for the Tizzards.Booosh easy as that!

If the horses had a choice I wonder would they pick Patrick...

Wonder?? I think we both know the answer to that.

Still in all, you'd have to think Alle Garde has the better chance. He's got the pick from Patrick and form stacks up. Granted, Soll is that little bit less exposed.

Soll is a very big horse too IIRC Hezz so perhaps Patrick has gone with Allee Garde as it's not as far to fall when he comes off?

If racing is all about value do you really want to be taking 5/6 Sizing Europe when he was 6/4 last time out in what was basically a match and he was 10/1 for this race last year.

He's an 5/4 shot in my book. I can't have him at odds on.

Value aside, what beats him LUKE? A fall?

Any horse in the race can beat him. Finian's Rainbow is still unexposed. Wishful thinking could come back to form. Kauto Stone minus a mistake at Sandown would have been much closer. Big Zeb could go against him being an 11yo. It's a Championship race, and SE is 10, and whilst he may win, and who knows, maybe even win easily, he can't be value in any way at odds on.
