Apparently this only on the old course, the course for the first two days of the Festival meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, along with some part of the cross-country course, which is used only on Tuesday.

The new course will not be covered.

Below zero temperatures aren't as serious at this time of the year. The frost tends to come out of the ground that bit quicker as the temperatures picks up in the daylight much better than in, say, January. This new 'beast from the east' does look a bit freakish, though. Shades of 1987?

Was it in 1975 the meeting was postponed until April? Was it snow that year or waterlogging?

Local radio forecasting -5 on Wed, just wondering whether we may have the scenario of two or three years ago when racing was abandoned because of strong winds and all the extra races were run on Thurs / Fri starting mid morning:ninja:.

If they stick the covers down over what has already fallen and thn the temperature drops markedly, how will this affect the ground?

1978; snow, I think Dessie. Gold Cup run in April and won by Midnight Court.

Indeed redhead.
1975 tue meet abandoned. Wed had 8 races scheduled 2mile chase and coral Golden Hurdle final added. Thurs had 5 races, no County hurdle.
1987 Gold Cup delayed 45 min or so owing to snow; Brad and The Milkman saga.

Just checking nearby weather stations and it looks like it is more like 5-6mm so far.

Rain looks like it will stop shortly.

A bit more rain/sleet and snow due over the weekend.

I've been at the track all day - rain eased a little in the afternoon, but didn't stop entirely. Parade ring and unsaddling enclosure completely saturated, and going closer to heavy than good to soft on course, I'd venture. Won't dry out much in the next few days, and will surely be called soft on Tuesday.

Turftrax say soft all round at 4.15 on Friday afternoon - going stick 5.7 C and H and 5.1 XC

BBC site saying no more rain expected before Tuesday .

That was really weird, edgt. It snowed only over Prestbury and Cleeve Hill. Absolutely ruddy freezing. We'd got a good pitch on the rails and stayed there to keep it.

Anyone remember the streakers? Jumped the last hurdle and ran all the way up to the line. One got caught by a copper, the other tried to climb over the rails - in front of us. What can I say? It was a very cold day!!!

The latest general forecast for those coming

V cold but largely/wholly dry story Tues-Weds; hard frosts; mostly cloudy; some bright spells Weds-Thurs. Less cold Fri
