Cheltenham Handicaps

Maybe because it's called Siruh Du Lac.

FWIW, I reckon that fall scunnered the poor horse but I'd love it they could get him back as he is/was a really admirable type at his best.

Horrific fall, remember it well. Lucky to still be with us today.

I've just watched a replay of its run in December and he jumped really well and only wknd from 2 out.
It will be interesting to see if he runs again before Cheltenham but Pipe has sent them for the plate without a run before.

Worth keeping an eye on the Pertemps Qualifiers now. No more Irish Pertempts qualifiers, so any Irish horse will need to come over to qualify. (If not already qualified)

Suspect any qualifying will be massively over bet as well.

Are there any sites anywhere dedicated (or containing pages dedicated) to the qualifiers?

I don't keep too close a track of the qualifiers in Britain, let alone Ireland, but like to know what has qualified so far. A lot of the qualifiers are straight races since a lot of the runners need to go up the weights to have any chance of making the cut.

It's the ones already likely to make the cut but preserving a mark (or who can afford to run fifth or sixth while getting their mark down a pound or two) that interest me the most.

Am I reading that correctly - only two qualifiers in Ireland? A maximum of 12 Irish runners (plus any that come over here to qualify) to look at, and some of them won't make the cut?

I note last season the lowest rating was 126. That's very low. I presume that's down to fewer Irish runners generally in the handicaps. I imagine they'll need to be higher than 130 to make the cut this season which makes the job of finding the winner that much easier: all you need is a future G1 winner sitting on a bandit of a mark...

Or just back Dallas Des Pictons...

I probably ask this question every year, but anyways, what date do the handicap entries come out?

Ive solved the handicaps anyway. Just back Gordon Elliot.

I plan to look at the form of each runner when the entries come out to identify my shortlist. The last few years I have been a bit lazy and only scanned the fields picking out two or three to look at closely and then picking one of those.

I will be putting a bit more time into it this year, although I havn't decided whether to conduct my examination before the final decs or after the final decs. It'll probably depends on how healthy my betting bank is the next two months!

I could still come out winnerless but at least I know I studied properly. Being lucky is another aspect of all this that sometimes is under appreciated. Surely finding the winner of 20+ runner handicap is not always a precise science..?

Glenloe given 135 by the English handicapper. Could he be plotted again? Surely not.

Ardhill given 123, 12 pound higher than his Irish mark. For those who like him for the Pertemps, he probably only needs to hack up in one race not 2.

Any mark your after can be seen online. Chemical Energy 137. Martin Pipe horse

Chemical Energy is definitely on my shortlist.

A lot of talk for Floueur for the Kim Muir. Can see the handicapper shithousing a 146 so it doesn’t get a run. Id lay off backing that until it gets a mark. Unless it has one and I’ve missed it.

Think most of Gordons will get taxed an extra few pounds. No doubt he’d have planned and knows this already.

There can't be any trainer in the history of Cheltenham more focused on making a mark this year than Gordon.

GE's only runner in the Warwick Pertemps qualifier is Sire Du Berlais.

Only 7 runners so scope for something to finish a distant sixth and qualify while getting its mark lowered...

I've just done THE JAM MAN 33s boosted to 36.75/1 hills for the pertemps hurdle.
Rated 146 so wont want to win tomorrow and if it cant finish in the first 6 tomorrow I will be disappointed.

2nd today and now 16s.(20s hills ) but trainer said hes not a certain runner as the irish national is the aim.

As we all seem to think Skelton likes a plot for Cheltenham then how about CABOT CLIFFS for the county hurdle.
Unplaced in the fred winter last year and has been staying on in its races as if further was needed but it's not bred to stay and today he weakened in the Lanzarote.could drop another couple of pounds, which I think would be about 6lb lower than last year.

Re Pertemps if anyone is thinking of backing Sire De Berlais, might be best to wait for NRNB, as this is in the post race comments

Midfield, ridden briefly 9th, ridden after 3 out, soon outpaced, kept on approaching last, no impression final 110yds (vet said gelding had been struck into his right-hind)
