Star up in the sky

When I first saw this result thought the time looked exceptional for a 53 rated runner, but track was riding very quick I still think it was pretty good but with the penalty which will be 10 pound then the time is negated to what about a horse of 63 would produce on that surface. But this was only second run since September, penultimate run behind Basingstoke was the race I put on here being the fastest of the season over 7fs that race has worked out exceptionally well George Benjamin and todays winner plus three places already coming out of the race.
Today she was dropped back to 6fs and they were virtuially all in a line with 2fs to go,probably confirming they didn't go that quick early but she quickened impressively. She was a winner off 73 in august 2012 she's still only had 13 races she also could be versatile with the amount of ear;ly pace she shows, infact she has looked a little to keen she maybe even more interesting give a chance over the straight 5fs.She could turn out to be a big improver on this surface and one to fiollow.

Clear praise

Clear praise looked a little unlucky in this race gregori allowed to dictate the race at only slow pace and turning it into a 2f sprint between jubilee brig.Clear praise was always travelling well in behind but simply they didn't go quick enough, hayley turner then having been on the far rail ended up drifting towards the middle of the track losing almost as much ground as distance beat.Even after doing that he still ran on nearest finish he may have been the best horse in the race with truer pace, would certainly have been second at worst and with the ground lost.He sits on a mark of 79 might take another drop after this run, this is his lowest mark for 16 months and the time he has struck has been around these marks won off 80 last season and previous season off 78.He looks in good form on the aw and handicapped to wn.

Sir frank morgan

A Johnston horse coming back off long lay off hadn't run since October 2012 was out of the handicap, but the 4yr old gelding out of top class sire montjeu was big eyecatcher. He was passed by the eventual second and third woth 1/2 mile to go then he eventually picked up going away, just running off a mark of 46 there looks to be loads to come. This time of the season Johnston has usually sent out a few that are middle distance upwards turf horses and this looks like a classic example. This time last year Broxbourne was winning off 53,eventually winning off 89 last august, sir frank morgan although impossible to say how much improvement to come could well be another Johnston prolific winner..

Life and times

Have put quite a few Johnston horses on here and most of them have gone on and won running up sequences and some will probably win again as they progress.I think tonights life and times could be the best of the lot, pnly had 7 lifetime ryuns and tonights run was massive improvement getting a decent pace to chase. Not only winning by 10ls eased, couldv'e won another 5/6ls and still clocked up a decent time 1m59.50 hacking up looks very decent, this gelding looking more like a 95 horse not 75.There looks lots more to come although will be big hike after this a pity the second was eased as increased the winning distance but pretty irrelevant as will now probably be aimed at the turf handicaps. He could well be another Johnston horse running at ascot, probably the most impressive winner seen this year...
Just as a comparison cai shen won the claimer over c/d on Thursday rated 96 tonights winner hacked up in .01 quicker time and that was a decent claimer wion by cai shen beating tempokea...

Come uppence
Braezen spirit

Probably long term this form may not be up to much but franked the brocklesby form flyman just touching off couple of newcomers.Dave evans has already had 10 2yr ols two of them have won by big margins and he mentioned palace alexander is his best so with come uppence so close up in this it may be an indication of this form not holding up long term.Come uppence passed early on in the race by the front three but stayiong on well switching to outside of the three looks plenty of improvement top come by far the cheapest purchase out of the first 5 at just 11,000 euros and maybe a little bit of value in early maidens and worth checking to see how form works out.
Brazen spirit out of Zebedee ldoesn't look a 5f horse was outpaced two furliongs out, ridden hand's n' heels for the last furlong and long term he may turn out to be a massive improver over further. He could be nice value in a maiden and still potentially an interesting runner at least for early season as he was gaining ground even though not ridden...

This was a strange piece of form as winner had been runner up to beach belle at the curragh and just touched off two nemcomers on very heavy ground. This must surely be dubious form as the time was .28 quicker than the following handicap won by thrilled to bits off 75 carrying 8-4 the winner and runner up carried 15 pound more and ran quicker which would be unheard of on debut runs.I havn't looked at sectionals and as I rarely look at irish form and with the trainer of the third never had a winner from 63 runners I will take it as present as form to note but not take to seriously.I would presume the other runners in the handicap did not go on the ground they were beaten 2 3/4ls,2 3/4ls and 1 3/4ls which would put them miles behind the 2yr olds and the second rated 95.It all looks very strange, what it does show that the second and third do go on desperate ground their sires actually had a preference for faster ground which makes the runs look even stranger.
It's worth keeping an eye on as so early in the season it cannot possibly be as good as first appears, but with unfashionable trainer in third there maybe some value and the trainer of second Andrew slattery trains an saighdiur so maybe still some substance to the form. The probability is the conditions have produced these flattering times, but will keep a close on the race and their next entries!!

Nothing of much note on the first flat meeting of the season, but will just give this maiden a mention was run at a true pace and was over 1.5 seconds quicker than both older handicap winners magnolia ridge rated 67 and memory cloth rated 70.Just as a guestimate you could sat they've run to marks of 80 with the older horses so they maybe worth watching out for again although will be equally running against unexposed types over the trip next time out.The second would probably look a decent bet in a maiden probably worth looking out for mark as winner just incase the form gets underestimated and the third nice debut run could well improve or be as good as winner on next run..

Probably the classiest performance seen so far this season by a debutant running 1m36.58 but visually much better than just looking at the bare time. She was outpaced throughout and fully 6ls entering the straight, motoring ion last 2 furlongs to win with lots in hand, she could be anything and would be nice to see her on the aw throughout the winter.

Signore piccolo

Very progressive looking gelding today at notts off 69,hadn't run since October and had the race won 2fs out looked different class to these eaded to win by 2 1/4ls that maybe keep his mark down. The time was very good as well only .40 slower than pearl secret winning the conditions race rated 110,they also went very quick in that race so the times look rock solid. The only ? for signore piccolo will be the ground, but on ground with give under a trainer that has always done well with sprinters looks ione to follow...

Secret pursuit

Another extremely well handicapped runner on the day at notts, the race as the sprint won over 2fs out eased at finish to win by 5ls,only watching the replay can you see how much the filly had in hand. She's only had 4 lifetime runs and the three previous runs the form looked moderate on this ground she looked to have a stone in hand, winning off just a mark of 68.The sire lawman rated 119n relished this ground and it was also nice to get a comparative time with Robert the painters win rated 95 only .32 slower the 68 rated filly but as said she could've won another 5ls at least. They went a nice even pace in the older handicap so again the times look rock solid....

As low as you can go,but lots of reasonsd to think this could be very good form for such a low quakity race for horses rated upto 59.The winner was only on 4th lifetime run and first time visor, the second had only 7 lifetime runs encountering soft ground for first time and first time tongue tie and the third only 4 lifetime runs again encountering soft ground and first run for Richard fahey.
What really makes it even more interesting is the time .53 quicker than the class 6 for older horses won by 65 rated magaleka, unless there was rain between races then the time compares very favourably. Also the 4th in the 3yr old race was a further 3 3/4ls behind with rest of the field spread out, with this being such a low grade race they should be reasonable prices next time out and at least short term worth following especially on speed track like catterick..

J wonder

This maiden won cheekily by j wonder on debut she could be one of the best 2yr olds this serason running .37 quicker than miracle of medina later winner of listed race he also in doing so hacked up.:ninja:The formlines at ascot are starting to look a little suspect quite a few shorties coming out ad losing from those races and the probability is there are better 2yr olds to come.Hopefully j wonder will be one of them along with the grey Gatsby!!

Farlow,shady Mc coy

The silver cup from ayr is throwiong up winners from what now looks like was a huge disadvantage the 6th ashpan sam has won off 90 by 3 1/2ls and today cheveton in 8th won off 78.Farlow finished on the far side and won on that side and came fifth while shady mc coy still a 3yr old was seventh split ashpan sam and cheveton. They could well be overpriced on this run they obviously like the ground and shady mc coys only had 6 lifetime runs and farlows only had 6 runs this season!!!

fils anges,my name is rio, secret look

A race thats working out really well already and the three put up couldv'e well beaten the winner mayfield girl ,fils anges having to be switched wider of the field and finishing full of running. The 4th my name is rio was tanking along got hampered shuffled back and still ran on full of riunning and the 5th secret look giving the field 5/6l start and also tanking along at the end of the race.Mayfield girls come out again today and won again off 81 and just to frank it further the 6th in the race above was runner up to mayfield girl in that class 3 today wth 2ls back to satsuma. The way they finished these three will surely be winning more races.

Missed this from last season on Saturday,my name is rio winning at thirsk off just 67.4yr old only 7 lifetime runs and was huge catcher last season in the above.Michael dods saying he was badly struck into twice last season and he was the only runner from the notts race that didn't go onto frank the form of that race.On Saturday winning by 2 1/4ls from the well handicapped clubland and also .33 quicker than the second div won by trade secret also well handicapped winning off 70.He could still be progressive and even with rise will liokely only be around the 74 mark and now proven that 6fs as well as 5fs wil suit.Quite an interesting runner starting off reasonable marks, hopefully progressive and one to follow..

My name is rio

Island remede

Island remede had won her previous handicap by 7ls off 66 was put up to 78 then ran in the above listed race, she's now been bumped up again to 87 which
puts her in higher grade handicaps. The rise should be ok though as the class 3 for older horses on the same day won by haaf a sixpence off 90 was .30 slower so her mark would look pretty competitive against older horses even if her own age group turn out to be above average. She's only had 8 lifetime runs and still open to improvement, could well pick up a nice handicap off current mark..

Mind of madness

The best 2yr old seen so far, although the form doesn't probably amount to much I like the time on the card winning by 4 1/2ls hacking up,spencer was 3ls off the pace from 2 1/2 furlongs out and looking behind as he knew what he had underneath.David brown is a trainer I like with 2 yrolds and I'm sure he will have his eye on the Coventry or something at ascot, this maynit even be his best. The winner could've won 10ls so the time looks pretty decent for debut run and the ground wasn't good, gdfm in places as was put up was verging on slow side of good which was always going to be the case as Monday was watered.Very little to compare to anything yet but undoubtedly will be running at ascot could easily be top class..

Last edited:
The finishing time itself maynot look anything special, but think it was good for ease of win.spencer must've known before the race how good this was the way it was ridden..

Silvanus

Silvanus has shown on a couple of runs of coming into form, but last time out was the most eyecatching hacking up on the outer of the field at Donny but getting stopped in run several times eventualy finishing third from what looked the worst ground on the day. He's now on a mark of 78 won off that at chester last season june 2012,went on to run in better class races won off 85 and a third to Aajaadd off 87 in a class 3 at Epsom.Hazelriggs already come out of that race and won the bronze cup he looks well handicapped.

Your gifted
Dawn catcher

Your gifted a thoroughly exposed 7yr old but an eyecatcher in this race travelling as well as anything trapped in on rail with nowhere to go throughout the race. She was up with the pace throughout, the race collapsed around the pacesetters and the two finishers won and came third, from last two positons in last furlong.
Considering she was up with the pace and was still travelling best bar the winner was even more eyecatching, how much she would've found is impossible to say but would surely have been in places against progressive winner. She's probably a horse I would avoid normally with strike rate and trainer but she could be overpriced after this run with books.
She's had a couple of seconds already this season both at wolves and a few places, this run would've been a long way infront of her recent best form and she maybe worth a few bets over the next few week.Quite interesting that she hasn't run at Kempton for 3 seasons but the track seemed to suit and the frenetic pace.
Dawn catcher similarly seemed suited by the track seemed to be travelling as well as most but was on outside of your gifted but couldn't get a run either, stopped in run shuffled back. She maynot have picked up as well as your gifted very difficult to tell but she's only had 8 lifetime runs, hadn't run since November had finished a length behind poyle Vinnie over c/d in a time that was respectable.Poyle Vinnie has since run 4th to expose after being hampered, there could be more to come from her and she could well be huge prices in very mediocre races.Just to mention roys legacy another very good run from poor draw up with pace throughout and still managing to get third place there may still be another race in him when given the draw and lead!!Quite an interesting insignificant little race!!

Iptisam
Ladies are forever

The second fastest 6f race ever run at lingfield won by the fastest ever winner run there,so the form looks rock solid, the pace cut out by ballista, forest edge and first time out this season ladies are foreve.Ladies are forever the only runner from the front runners and poor draw finishing in first 6,there are a few more races back here before the end of the season she will be entered in.Last sesson she beat timeless call by 2 1/2ls in a very fast time of 56.67 over lingfield 5fs she will surely be back for that race, the one slightly worrying thing was seeing first time pieces on today. The only 6 runs she has headgear etc have been her last 6!!
Iptisam was just chasing the three front runners so may have been ideally placed but is only rated 91,folded tamely on previous run looking at todays time and previous run suggests this was an improved run.All the front three in this race came from further behind tarooq and hoof it 6-7ls off the pace so would be impossible to say that it was an advantage to have led or even chased the pace.Iptisam looks well handicapped still on this run and should win again, only 10 lifetime runs....

Mambo spirit

A strange ride on mambo spirit, hacking up throughout the race and travelling so well running up the back of a few mid way through the race it was almost as though they weren't going quick enough.Catlin seemed determined not to let him go on,he was trading at 28s on betfair so no money for him the horse may not have picked up but was given no chance. He's on a mark of 58 so very well handicapped won off 63 last season and was running in different class races to tonights. He won't be much of a price after this run, infact I would imagine will be overbet so he maybe worth looking at over the next few runs on decent ground as he now looks in form..

Yenhaab
Lord of the nile

An interesting insignificant maiden which was run at a decent pace, the pace was cut out by the O'Meara horse lord of the nile had no previous worthwhile form and was first run for him.The winner was only hacing second run this was first run since august 2013 so nice performance, earlier on the card crystal lake won the handicap for 3yr old rated up to 86.The winner of that race crystal lake winning off 76 carrying 8-10 will probably be off 81 next time out, yenhaab carrying 9 pound more and slightly slower time .14 slower.Anything upto mark of 80 would seem very fair for yenhaab he may even get in lower than that and probably even more interesting would be the O'Meara horse on his handicap mark he finished around 2 1/2ls behind crystal lake but carried 9 pound more there looks a good chance he will get let in lightly. The marks will be interesting friom the handicapper.

Abseil

This was a decent time by the 4yr old stoute horse, his second run as 4 yr old the time of the race fast by .74 compared very favourably with the 3 yr old handicap for runners up to 90.The winner of that race shyron winning off 8-0 over 7fs the time fast by .73 over a furlong less rated 76 but the 4yr old in the maiden carryuing 9-13.The comparative times and weight differences from the ratings plus only abseils only second ever race and looks lots of improvement to come. He's out of top class dam intercontinental was 3rd in the 1000 guineas and won 13 of her 22 races in the usa beating Ouija board on her last run at breeders cup on turf.At this stage abseil could be anything....
