Bosun breese

Bosun breese was hardly seen last season and when he did run was racing on fast ground, ran one decent race when he got soft second to steps at thirsk. His best lifetime form was the 2012 season winning by 7ls from rasaman at musselburugh running a very fast time .84 quicker than the class 2 on same day.He then followed that up with another win, then the above race looking far better than the winning mark of 83 having horses such as jack dexter and kingsgate choice behing very decent handicap win at ayr.He did run well off 93 at ripon when 3rd in big field but those succession of runs may have taken there toll at end of sesson.
Last season I was hwaiting for him to show on softish ground at musselburugh or ayr he only had 8 runs and 6 of them were on gd/fm he then was not seen after july presumably something wrong. He is nine now so he may not retain all that ability and has changed stables paul midgeley now trains from the barron stable but his mark has now come down to 81 another pound and will be in far weaker grades. If he does still retain his 2012 ability he will be massively overpriced after last seasons form and could well aghain knock up a few wins especially on those speed tracks mentioned.

Hamish Mcgonagall

Veteran now at 9 but his best ever performaces coming as a 7yr old improving from decent handicapper and competing in group races placed numerous in first 3 or 4.He was third in the prix de l'abbaye in 2012,came back in march 2013 looked like he had regressed only to run 4th in the nunthorpe above later in season, that was only his 4th run of the season. It looked likely he would go to run in the prix de l'abbaye again but wasn't see again for the rest of the season. The races he competes in are very competitive
at this level but his profile when in form is so consistent that he deserves to pick one of these up and he is always a price that slightly underestimates his chance. The end of last season proves he retains ability and he could be a bit of value in pinching a group race this season..

Thatchmaster

Yet another Johnston progressive winner, had won at swell on seasonal debut and looked impressive but the time of that race was slow as other races on the card that day suggested, so still had a bit to prove on new mark.He then reappeared at swell tailed off,but tonight tracked the pace with tempokea leading both filling first two places outstaying more fancied runners. This looked a weakish race for the grade with centurious first time out, star links looking high in weights commissar non stayer but thatchmaster although under pressure two furlongs out never looked better than at the finish. The way he won at finish he may even stay further, the mark of 79 looks generous now and with small winning distance shouldn't get to much of a rise but never looked better than when hitting the line as was picking up again.
The form looks a little suspect with tempokea coming second, that may well be the case as they both led this race and the others looked not to stay but you could take positives on tempokeas aw form last season, when 3rd to planteur in winter derby last and finishing third to buckland in the roseberry at Kempton then second to universal off 97.Tempokea was off 90 tonight and it maybe thatchmaster has run better than the result would suggest, this is johnstons time of year with horses to go to war on the turf....

Hot streak

One of the best times of the season over 5fs at ascot if not the best by a 2yr old ,this group 3 .46 quicker than steps winning the listed race for older horses on the card and carrying 2 pound more than the 104 rated older horse.
Not only hacking up by 5ls with a great time but drawn 14 on stands side and ended up on far rail so numerous lengths making the time even more exceptional. He then went to Newmarket over 6fs losing to stable mate Astaire In falsely run race,he maybe just an out and out 5f horse and could still be one of the miost exciting 3 yr old sprinters of the forthcoming season...

Jimmy styles
Seeking magic

This was from last season and one a progressive sprinter seeking magic 5yr old
but last season was big improver, couple of races got no run and similarly in this race although wouldn't have won was best ever run off 98 and still looks to be improving. The other was jimmy styles,he is veteran now at 10 only appeared 4 times last season was runner up to tickled pink in group 3 and this last run of the season, hacking up in a handicap but getting no run off a mark of 103.He may have been an unlucky loser but more importantly showed he retains all his ability,he looks dangerous now off these marks even at 10,also the ground was on the soft side had run well on all sorts of ground previously but perhaps the ground woth a little give suits more nowadays. He could well get underestimated in betting...

A Johnston horse coming back off long lay off hadn't run since October 2012 was out of the handicap, but the 4yr old gelding out of top class sire montjeu was big eyecatcher. He was passed by the eventual second and third woth 1/2 mile to go then he eventually picked up going away, just running off a mark of 46 there looks to be loads to come. This time of the season Johnston has usually sent out a few that are middle distance upwards turf horses and this looks like a classic example. This time last year Broxbourne was winning off 53,eventually winning off 89 last august, sir frank morgan although impossible to say how much improvement to come could well be another Johnston prolific winner..

Whispering star

I don't know why I didn't put whispering star up with tizlove regardless at the same time as the time was so good,by far the fastest race this season for the grade. The seconds run around 1m36.71 which was very good for a 3yr old rated 51 got a 3 pound rise after this which now looks very fair after tizlove winning again. She's only had 4 lifetime runs and being out of war front top class sire on dirt, turf all surfaces she's still open to improvement and with the versatility she may go on any griound or surface has to be worth following short term at least. The 4th in this race 5ls behind whispering star had wion previously and black vale won next time out was 6 1/2ls behind her.Off such a low mark with decent pedigree she could pick up some races after only four runs..

Silver heels
Appease

The race looked relatively weak on looking through previous form in the race with mostly exposed runners, the time suggested it was decent, one of the quicker miles there this season.Silver heels looked slightly better grade than these and although exposed still relatively lightly raced on the aw,although had been running poorly at lingfield it maybe he is a bit of a Kempton specialist when given a decent pace to chase. He won this off 79 quite comfortably,if he gets a 6 pound rise can stay in the sane grade and would be interesting back over c/d.
Appease has only had 6 lifetime runs, was off 76 so still open to improvement this was best ever run and again may have preference for the track, won his maiden here.

Tizlove regardless

A very good time for a 3yr old only rated 58 1m36.21 infact I doubt any 3yr old within 10 pound of this has run quicker this season from memory. The johnstn horse has only had 6 runs, this large colt looked awkward on track and it maybe the surface even though he won easily may not be preferable.Out of top class sire tiznow, the progeny are very progressive from 3yr olds upwards and it maybe the Johnston horse could impriove for switch of surface.Regardfless of that he will still look well handicapped after this poor looking race today shouldn't be higher than 65 leaving him in the lower grade races. He could be one to watch closely as I wouldn't be surprised to see him far better than current mark,he may even go on the turf as well so could well be interesting early season...

Emerald breeze
Hustle bustle

Probably one of the weakest races you will ever see witth absolutely no form in the race whatsoever, biscuiterr in third the benchmark for the race only runner with any form. The form of the first two though may infact be quite good for this grade, biscuiteer being beaten further than any of her previous 4 runs on the surface and the first two were value for those distances.
Emerald breeze had first time blinkers and this was only 6th ever run,the time for a horse winning off a mark of just 46 although nothing special was respectable for the grade, looking at these grade races run there recently compares well.Even if she got a rise of 9 pound would still be able to run in these she should be able to win more races, she could've been called the winner 3fs out and quite interesting to see how much more there is to come.
Similiarly hustle bustle, she's also only had the 3 runs but she hadn't run since
june 2013 she only sits on 50 also so could well comer on for the run,the first two looked class apart. There are plenty of these weak races for the taking for the pair of these and they actually could be mildly progressive in lowest level

Toormore,ertijaal

This looked a decent race with the front two 7ls clear of the third, comparitively on the card the time looked probably one of the best of the season as they would've been racing on the worst of the ground being the last sprint there. All the ascot races have been priced up I can't see anything, there's been nothing on the cclock to have a bet on but I wouldn't mind having a bet on these two if entered up somewhere. The fact bounty hunter was 7 3/4ls behind in 5th yet had only been beaten 3 1/2ls by parbold in the class 3 maiden at York gives this a bit more substance. This looks one of the more interesting maidens as may get overlooked with a plethora of other maiden winners of hannons and haggas always has one decent 2yr old this will probably be it.

Star up in the sky

When I first saw this result thought the time looked exceptional for a 53 rated runner, but track was riding very quick I still think it was pretty good but with the penalty which will be 10 pound then the time is negated to what about a horse of 63 would produce on that surface. But this was only second run since September, penultimate run behind Basingstoke was the race I put on here being the fastest of the season over 7fs that race has worked out exceptionally well George Benjamin and todays winner plus three places already coming out of the race.
Today she was dropped back to 6fs and they were virtuially all in a line with 2fs to go,probably confirming they didn't go that quick early but she quickened impressively. She was a winner off 73 in august 2012 she's still only had 13 races she also could be versatile with the amount of ear;ly pace she shows, infact she has looked a little to keen she maybe even more interesting give a chance over the straight 5fs.She could turn out to be a big improver on this surface and one to fiollow.

Anything today?

I noticed that Arr Kid is back at Southwell today (part of Gigs unbelievable Tuesday in Feb),

Has it got any chance today? I noticed that its up in grade, but it did win by 9L that day, so possibly more to come at the strange course that is Southwell?

A little Kaboom on behalf of Gigs, it absolutely walked it, looks to love the Fibresand, but have a feeling its just scuppered any hope of a decent mark.

Had best speedfigure when it won by 9ls and the others looked dubious stayers,i backed it with returntotibrecongill purely on its 1m3f time there.Probably wasn't a great race and I probably wouldn't back it next time out raised in class although may go on and improve will be 5/2 against real stayers and will be neasr the 90 mark now..

Roys legacy

Five year old but taken a lot of racing only 1/26 on turf but 7/27 on the aw and 4/8 over the 5fs at lingfield. The beauty of some of these aw horses they just run the same race over and over again he'll probably still be able to run in this grade won quite tidily and looks in very good form having won off 71 jan 2013.They went under 58 seconds as well which doesn't happen that often he looks like he could win again in these very weakly contested races..

The lockmaster

Wouldn't normally put something up to follow after a run like this by Appleby stable, but the fact the first furlong was run at no pace and the lockmaster would've needed a stronger pace points to him being in very good form.Frontier flight was al;ways going to be able to have everything onside lack of pace in the race and looking better at 7fs he only upped the pace late on with too much toe.The lockmaster running best race of the season and hopefully won't get put up,or at least no more than a pound or two,now 2 pound below last winning mark although he maynot be much value,i like the way he almost matched frontier flight for toe at the end staying on!!

My time

A diabolical race but winner has on several occasions shown he has ability on debut over this c/d in a decent time behind havin a good time and Asian trader now rated 77 and 79.He picked up well tonight when challenged by the pack and looked to be lazing in front and won cheekily he could be well handicapped with only 9 lifetime runs winning off 50 tonight!!

Captains secret

An impressive win by captain scarlet and maybe improvement switched to this surface which was always a probability through sire, setting a fierce gallop throughout and verring to left but still picking up at finish to eventually be eased I thought this was a real fibresand specialist performance. His previous for behind porteous looked good but he may be even better on this surface, the time of the race only .11 slower than fortinbrass 78 winning the claimer captains secret carrying 10 pound more,i havn't seen many performances like this at swell in this grade he looks worth following on this surface..

Returntobrecongill

Another stunning win on the same card winning by 19ls but could've been 29l the most interesting thing was the time one of the quickest of the season on a surface that is riding slow yet this race only 2.24 above standard.Don't know what the handicapper will do with him hopefully won't be to harsh as the rest looked very poor but the time suggests he could be a huge improver would have to be of interest back at swell, will be keeping a close eye out to see his revised mark. The races here are relatively weak even as the grade rises especially when you stasrt looking at the clock so hopefully there will be plenty of races for hiom to run in..
