We all know that Cummings bent the rules, but he did it in such as way that was not going to harm anyone. You can't let the great unwashed stray from the rules because that could well lead to disaster - therein lies the difference. It's wrong but it's understandable to 'us' ;-)

It is wrong but the anger is fuelled because it isn't understandable to 'us'. We don't understand why he is allowed to act with impunity. Knowing it happens isn't enough to understand it.

Hi DO, I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with those words, hence the 'us' = people who can see why he did it. I'm no Tory fan btw, but can understand that he probably felt a sense of narcissistic entitlement , it's wrong but I can understand why he did it.
