Eclipse Stakes

With the amount of decent horses around we don't have enough contests that stir the blood.

Where are Camelot, Frankel, Beauty Parlour and Valyra?

This race tomorrow is a Group 2.

Can't buy into this 'Nathaniel is being trained for the King George' hoo-ha; he was fit enough to race 6 weeks ago, and was only withdrawn when scoping badly. A 10f gp1 win would also do more for his stud prospects than a second KG, and with the latter only 2 weeks away, his programme suggests this could well be the priority.
With the ground turning in his favour, and the whole of the Sandown straight to build up a head of steam, he really ought to turn this into too much of a test for the likes of Farhh and Cityscape.

Nathaniel does seem the sensible pick. 12f animals have a good record in the race and he does have the best form.

Wasn't going to have a bet in the race but the more I look at it I've had to play Bonfire at 8/1. I just think you can put a line through the Derby run, he got so so warm and his own pony bolted to the start ahead of him.

What price would he be for this if he had come here straight from the Dante? Given the Derby was a total no show and can be ignored, he should be a lot shorter for me.

I appreciate the three year olds look weak but to be fair, the middle distance ones have hardly had a huge chance to show what they're capable of yet.

I expected him to be around 5/1 so I've had to take a punt at 8s, especially in this ground.

Twice Over for me. Proven group one winner, won this before and with the right man to get him back to his best. He looks the value in the race and the one people will kick themselves about if he comes back to his best.

It could be one of those kick yourself races.

Nathaniel may win but I generally don't like banking families at the minute so that's that.:)

I'm with Cityscape. The first time he raced beyond a mile he put up a career-best performance. The obvious conclusion is that he improved for the step up in trip and I think he might have even more to come at 10f. Selkirk has sired plenty of high-class winners at 10f plus and actually has a better percentage record of winners to runners at that distance than over a mile in recent years. We know Cityscape acts on the ground, top trainer, top jockey, uncomplicated ride and the yard's in good form.

they showed Crackerjack King on the ML on the gallops..he has a very scratchy action and imo will be totally unsuited on this ground..his record shows his one run on it was a well underperfoming effort

a place lay for sure imo

This race tomorrow is a Group 2.

With the best 3 OHR's rated at 125 126 127 i'm not seeing the G2 aspect at all.

You must also think that the POW was also a G2 then?..best 3 OHR's there were 125 121 119

i know. Isnt it boring? There is so much moaning about races on here sometimes, you wonder why people bother following the sport. 4 out of 9 runners are group one winners too. Its a fascinating field and hasnt lost much for the absense of SYT imo

I can only echo Gus here. I am unsure this is going to be Nathanials day and Gosden is certainly playing things down. The favourite is possibly a bit too fragile to take such a price about and Im sometimes a little sceptical about seeming unlucky late bursts of speed (wont go into it). Bonfire was my derby pick but was just too much of a let down in what is not looking a great race perhaps

OHR's are arse. We all know this.

SYT is a genuine Group 1 horse over 10f. None of these today are. Nathaniel might be. But his best form, and his OHR, are over a different trip.

This race just doesn't exite me. This race used to attract the likes of Dancing Brave and Nashwan. So where are Camelot and Frankel.

The DWC is gash as I argued earlier but the Duty Free is always a strong race.

This is a more than adequate renewal, just lacking a superstar but we've been spoilt in recent years. In 2006, this would have been vintage stuff!

we have been very lucky recently with STS.. Frankel..and a couple of others..when horses like those aren't there its deemed not up to much

i wonder how races were viewed from 1973 to 1976 period after having Mill Reef..the brigadier and Nijinsky to get over

If the top quality horses aren't around there is nothing you can do. But we have the horses this year - unfortunately they aren't running in the same races.
