Eclipse Stakes

Indeed , Trojan Fen and Mr Fluorocarbon both won it as three year olds for Cecil in the 1980s.

Good one and interesting, Cecil also being the trainer of Placerville, the last three year old to win the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, and Prismatic, the last three year old to win the Lockinge. Or Pragmatic. P****tic whatever it was, Howard de Walden owned. Probably close relation to Kris and Diesis

Given that a fair number of Arc winners struggle to hit 129, I think it demeans their achievements to suggest Nathaniel hit that kind of level.

I'm working on my launch from the blocks.

this is the thing about ratings..the big races don't always throw up the big ones..RPR's are usually higher than OHR's as well....and i base my calcs from OHR's anyway

Thanks all. Henry, to be fair was Eclipse stks specific. You would wonder how many other senior trainers, Gosden, Stoute etc would agree.
I was lucky enough to be at Royal Ascot the year Placerville won. The runner up caught my eye. ridden by cash, the 5yo filly battled on late and fast to get to a neck of the winner. what with stout pedigree and form on the heavy I thought she would throw great bumper horses! Any prospect of that happening were dashed when she won the Arc! The rest is history.:)

She was unlucky not to win that day, I remember her getting unbalanced in the bad ground.

Will remain one of my best bets until the day I die. I sat down on the morning of the Saturday before the Arc to 'sort it out'. Decided that Urban Sea had the best balance of form and going preference and crucially, a good draw of which she could take advantage. I then checked her odds and thought the 66/1 with Hills must have been a mistake. I ran the whole 10minutes to the betting shop in the hope they had not noticed the rick. 66s was still there! :D

Prismatic was out of the de Walden mare Pris, who was a half-sister to Kris and Diesis.

Yes, this is the kind of thing discussed in the Brigadier Gerard thread. I'm now getting innured to the idea of Timeform's ratings being 'different' from others'. It's only natural that handicappers' ratings are higher than ORs because in theory to win a handicap you need to be better than your handicap mark. I find the closer you get to the top of the scale the more accurate the ORs are and the closer mine are to them, whereas RPRs tend to maintain a differential of some sort.

the closer to the top, you are right but on the very top the OR is not so accurate as they dont have the problem of any of those horses running in handicaps.
