Eclipse Stakes

Nathaniel is 3 lb inferior to SYT so i think F has improved a couple more lbs today

at the furlong marker N was always holding the stamina card over Farhh

a decent race i think

well done Nathaniel backers

i wonder if Frankie sat too far back there..but Farhh is still improving with each run

Agree Frankie left himself too much ground to make up although the winner may have pulled out more. Not the best ride from the Italian imo.

While I can see some merit in the argument that Farhh sat a bit too far back he also raced wide throughout but came to win all the same. I can't help thinking that if he'd stayed wide of Nathaniel he'd have taken it to a photo (without claiming he'd have won) but when Nathaniel eyeballed him he chickened out of a fight.

I didn't fancy the race beforehand but I've been rating a few races via Sri Putra who again looks to have run his race and the right horses have fought out the finish. It was probably a fair enough renewal and SYT would probably have had to settle for third.

Edit - I've just checked the full result and Sri Putra was well behind at the line. Looked to me from the head-on that he was next to Crackerjack King a furlong out. Must try and see the side-on finish again.

A decent proper Group 1 winner that we know is better over 12f.King George-Arc route now for him. Could be 130 horse yet! Farhh is group1 standard who has more improvement with him. When he meets CDA, Snow Fairy, Golden Lilac, etc we will know what he is made of.
Had the Rothschild patent so all in all not a bad week.

Nathaniel good run, 129p now for me
Farhh better here not losing the ground at the stalls.

Bonfire, maybe not at his best but the form of Camelot looks very weak

Great Heavens looked impressive at Haydock and is top class

Interesting race. I like the winner but should he really be favourite for the King George now? With only two weeks between the races and with Sea Moon having better form (imo). I don't think so.

Both of them has scope but for me Nathaniel is the better horse,
Nathaniel needs good or softer

Lets see if Cirrus runs and the japanesse looks a good horse too.

St Nicholas Abbey not for me in the King George, better form going left handed

I think his Hardwicke form is potentially superior. I say potentially because I think Ryan went a bit soon on him and he's better than the bare result. But we could see a Harbinger situation here where a piece of form is downgraded simply because it isn't in a Group 1.

Like I said I do like Nathaniel and he tempted me today but it was his Champion Stakes run that was of interest from a form point of view. I think the King George last year was one of the worst renewals I've seen (Workforce was finished after the Eclipse and SNA doesn't act on the track) but today proved he's a top notcher. I think the short gap between the races is a negative.

HArdwicke ride was perfect and Lemaire helped too

EC
the Arc winner is trained in Japan and is a 4yo

According to JG, Nathaniel is not certain to even run in the King George.
Both his previous c/d wins have been on rain-softened ground, and - albeit a different distance - on the evidence of his Champion Stakes run on better ground, he may struggle on similar at Ascot, anyway.
Wouldn't go overboard about today's form really; on paper he's beaten horses rated 118 & 119 with a non-stayer in 4th. He may prove better in time, but there wouldn't be many top class 12f races run on his kind of ground.

twice over has only just been down rated..was a 125..and if Farrh is a 118 horse then SYT has been somewhat ridiculously over rated rated i think...by about 10lbs...don't think such as TF would be agreeing with that for one

rating through those figures would be totally false..particularly as the time figure suggests a rating of about 129

todays race was run on ground just the easy side of Good...many top races including the Arc are run on this type of going

what do you have for him?
I won't finalise my rating for him until midweek but Twice Over hasn't got above 116 this season and I had Farhh on 117++ for Ascot and I suspected he could run to about 123.

I take on board the pre-race comments about how well Twice Over looked but it's an awful long time since he ran to 125.

I'd also take a time rating of 129 with a pinch of salt. The jockeys were taking it easy in the earlier races until they realised it wasn't as soft as claimed. This was probably the first true-run race of the day.

Nathaniel probably didn't even hit his OR of 126 today but looks likely to go higher once fully fit and racing over further. I thought it was a tremendously game effort from him and he can be the big middle-distance horse of the season if Frankel stays at a mile.
