Election 2024

In all seriousness, I'm not sure it's a smart move for Reform to welcome her.

I would imagine quite a few Reform supporters don't like her one bit and think she stands for many of the things that made them feel the Conservative Party was not (or no longer) for them.

When I first read this story, I thought to myself: "What Reform really need is a widely-respected member of the Tory Right to defect to them."

I then thought: "Like who?"

At this point my mind drifted to one of my favourite discussions between "Razors" and "Harold" in "The Long Good Friday."

Harold: "There was a few!"

Razors: "Like who?"

Harold: "They're all dead."

While I admire the journey she has been on in her life - and despite my long-running light-hearted affection for my favourite milf in politics 😂 - I think Angela Rayner has been spectacularly stupid and has to go if found to have broken the ministerial code.

Few are surprised when a Tory behaves like this - the politics of self is a part of Conservatism - but many expect better of a Labour politician and rightly so.

She knows the centre right media watch her every move - she should have paid the higher rate just to be on the safe side.

And I'm not buying this trust fund stuff - there are other ways to put money aside for a child's future and it just smacks of grubby tax avoidance to me.

James O'Brien has been defending her, saying she's essentially a "good person," well she's clearly not THAT good in my book and she's let down those who saw her as a relatable working class hero to millions.

Not defending the current lot. Not by a long chalk, but what do you lot want ? Last lot totally destroyed the country. That was never going to be turned around anytime soon.
💯%.

I don't think even those who voted Labour think they're doing well so far, but the difference now if you break the ministerial code is you're gone and that wasn't necessarily the case under the last government.

The Tories are a dying Party and at the next Election it's likely to be a battle between Labour and Reform, who seem to me to be borderline racist.

That might not bother some people - it would certainly bother me.

Losers in life, looking for people to scapegoat. That's the Farage fan club. Ex tories , looking at a gift horse to further feather their nests.
Starmer knows he's on borrowed time, so for fucks sake. Start acting like a leader + stand up to the press barons + Farage with his 3 mps + stop them dictating policy.
Alas. It appears beyond him

And God forbid Farage gets in. Jesus wept.

Farage is now talking about when he is PM, not it. Maybe Starmer thinks if he has enough rope he’ll hang himself. My ex has read the Reform manifesto in detail and says it’s unworkable. And Farage, after being paid to give a talk to anti abortionists in America has now had an anti vacc doctor give a talk at the party conference saying the King and Catherine both had cancer because they had the covid jab. Anti abortion and anti vacc. from a party whose leader is a Trump mini me. People can see what’s happening in America. Do they really want it to happen here?

Folk want easy answers and don't want to see snake oil salesman. Society is becoming more stupid and unable to think beyond what's in front of them. If reform get in I only hope folk are prepared for the carnage that will follow. We are royally screwed whatever happens and that's from the ultimate positive thinker.

Few seem to understand the shift in the political epicentre since 1979.

They include those who call Starmer a communist.

He isn't.

And by the standards of the moderate 1970s Labour governments he is very conservative.

Ditto his predecessor Blair.

Wilson and Callaghan were considered moderates - even by the Tories - in their day.

The sort of tax regime they presided over would horrify the modern Tory.

Populist right wing governments have terrible records on economic growth - and the damage to the social fabric of society is incalculable.

A Reform government would be worse than the last two governments put together.

The country has already moved far too far to the right since 1979 - you can only stretch an elastic band so far until it snaps.

There is a limit on how great the gap between rich and poor can be until civil unrest ensues.

Scary days ahead.

Indeed Ian. Too many folk romanticise thatchers time but her policies have left us where we don't make anything ourselves, there is a massive shortage of affordable housing and wages are falling behind inflation horrendously. The elastic band will snap eventually but unfortunately those on low or middle income will pay the price as always happens. If we elect folk who couldn't run a sweet shop don't be surprised where the brown stuff hits the fan. I can't believe how we are heading to the abyss without the alarm bells going off but it seems we are. Baffling.
