Saw Iron Man last weekend, very entertaining film. Indy next!!!!!
I recently watched the third IJ film. I didn't remember seeing it before until the last half-hour but I thought it was really tired and disappointing. Even Harrison Ford couldn't save it. I harbour grave doubts about the new one.

The Dark Knight did $66m opening day - a new record by a clear $6m. To near unanimous good reviews too (unlike the movie it deposed, Spider-Man 3).

No Country.
Euro, would you agree that the scene in the store is one of the best scenes in any film. Chilling, riveting, amazing acting, and strangely bloodly hilarious since the viewer is on the inside of a very in joke and the storekeeper is on the outside. God I wish I could write like that.

Yeah, it was a nice scene, sort of one of those off-tangent little vignettes that the Coen`s do so well. But good as the writing was the casting was awesome. Where they got Javier Bardem from christ knows but he was awesome. I was kind of pulling for him in the end.

Bardem is fantastic. Keep an eye out for The Dancer Upstairs. Aside from being John Malkovich's directorial debut, it's got a brilliant performance from Bardem in it.

The counterfeiters is now out on DVD

German cinema is on a high at the moment. This wonderful gripping film has to be seen

Watching Batman The Begining on Sky right now, never seen it before. Its awesome, definitely going to see the new one this week.

Heh, just re-watched it too Gal. Must have been a writer's dream: take Batman and try to make it half-way plausible.

In an unusual bout of credit-crunch deliver-may-care, we treated ourselves to a few movies over the weekend:

In The Valley of Elah: great story, brilliantly acted, though the conclusion was marginally unsatisfying - like they realised they were running out of time, and had to wrap-up the plot quickly. Some smarter editing early-on would have helped, but still well worth a viewing.

American Gangster: class all round. Recommended.

Eastern Promises: Not sure whether I really liked this film or not. Viggo Mortensen very convincing as usual, but it seemed at times like they were making the plot-up on the hoof. Still, it had Naomi Watts in it, so how bad could it be?

Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium: The kids liked it, and it was a perfect vehicle for Dustbin Hoffman to ham it up all over the screen - and actually remain in context. It's one of those movies where you could probably just watch the trailer, and not bother with the film, but it had Natalie Portman in it, so how bad could it be? Also a good performance from Kid #1 (his name escapes me, but he's got jug ears you cannot miss, so you'll know who I'm talking about if you see him in anything else).

Did I miss something, was there some twist in the ending that I am too thick to get or was there just no conclusion to the story ?

I think the title says it all really, TLJ`s character has retired and that`s it. I haven`t read the novel (All the Pretty Horses from the same writer was ok but quite boring in parts so i`m reluctant to read another book of his) - maybe it was true to it`s source.

Saw American Gangster last night. Good, solid film and like No Country...where the three main characters have no scenes together Crowe and Washington aren`t on screen at the same time until right near the end. I like that, reminds me of Pulp Fiction.

Regarding The Dark Knight, you can feel free to pretty much believe the hype. Particularly about Heath Ledger - you're scared to blink when he's on screen. The whole film is utterly relentless from start to finish.

The Dark Knight does live up to the hype. I thought that Batman Begins was verygood , this is far superior. Hard to see how they can follow this up since it is so far ahead of any genre comparison.

My sons went to see it at the IMAX, wish I'd gone with them, must have been an incredible experience. Summary -Wow!

I liked it a lot. The plot was a bit flimsy at times but all the actors were superb. Watts is my favourite actress.
