First season sires and other 2-y-o stuff 2014

Vesnina, a very well bred daughter of Sea The Stars and who I mentioned earlier in the thread, has her second run this evening at Kempton. Weak in the market on her debut on the July course she managed a decent enough third, should have come on for that run but the Polytrack might be a concern. 9/2 third favourite at the moment.

A first winner for VOCALISED with Vocal Nation yesterday.

Today there are runners for: MAKFI(2), FAST COMPANY(2), PACO BOY, SHOWCASING, EQUIANO(3), ARCANO(2), LOPE DE VEGA and ALFRED NOBEL.

Vesnina disappointing I'm afraid, there with a chance 2 out when Hughes rode her for a while but soon eased down.

It would be easy to use the surface as an excuse.

Following Dick Whittington's win in today's Phoenix Stakes (I think it's the first G1 for a first season sire), I wonder how your Rip Van Winkles are doing, Miesque. I think you mentioned at some point that they were backward types - how are they coming on?

Ones had a setback and is out for the season. Of the others only one is sufficiently forward enough to have been jumped from the stalls in prep for his first run.

Good luck with them. It's possible that the late developing ones will be the best ones! Let us know when the furthest forward has his first run.

Very expensive (2.85 million euro) colt Ol' Man River makes his debut in the Leopardstown 6.45 this evening.

A son of Montjeu out of the very good race mare Finsceal Beo, winner of the English and Irish Guineas in 2007. A negative though is that her only previous runner, a filly by Sea The Stars didn't have a run as a 2-y-o and her only run has been in a 10f. maiden at Salisbury in May of this year where she went off 3/1f. but could only manage 8th. in a 12 runner race.

Puck Fair a very appropriate winner at Leopardstown given the week we have.
Puck Fair takes place August 10 -12 every year in Killorglin where a puck goat is crowned King Puck and oversees the three day proceedings from an elevated pen in the town.
The halting sites will be rocking tonight to Cider and Joe Dolan cds for sure.
