Newcastle 1.45 7f. Maiden
Grey Sensation continued the good form of the Karl Burke 2-y-os winning this in good style by three lengths and a bit.
Yeenaan, a son of Rip Van Winkle, reportedly was very green and coltish pre-race his run was interesting and this report on
www.b2yor.co.uk probably sums it up:
" Watching Yeenaan being hauled to the back of the field, and out of the race effectively, after an ok start brought back the usual thoughts about 'Schooling in Public'. Clearly a Grey Area with inexperieinced 2yos where to draw the line with the 'Schooling' issue. But the Rules of Racing do say each horse should be ridden in such a way as to enable the best possible placing. Many 2yos are clearly not ridden in this way and instead are working to trainer objectives about how to run a race.
But, if you thought Yeenaan had a solid profile and looked ok in PRev you were actually wasting your time going into any analysis whatsoever. The horse wasn't going to be ridden in a way that would enable the Best Placing. How about a compromise given the enforcement issues? Trainers are allowed to go in for 'Schooling In Public' but must declare it in Advance. We can then argue about whether any wins or placing attract any Prize Money, including the horse in the betting, etc. Even better, can we have 'Schooling Races' instead which are not 'real' racea as such and no betting. But, we can't carry on with multiple horses every day, including many at shorter prices, ridden in definace of the basic rule that underlies all Racing integrity."
Newcastle 2.15 7f. Maiden
Bravo Zolo, another son of Rip Van Winkle, ran a race very similar to that of his stable companion and the above comments could easily be appropriate for him.
Newcastle 3.25 8f. Handicap.
The official handicapper seems to have underestimated the ability of Azraaf, the winner of this. He was winning his second nursery despite being raised 10 lbs. for the previous effort. On the evidence of this race, always travelling like the winner and pulling away nicely before perhaps tiring in the last 100 yards, there is more to come.
Warwick 1.25 6f. Maiden.
From what I could see from the video Terror isn't very big but this daughter of Kodiac (having a great season as a sire of 2-y-os) certainly has an engine. I see that Gigilo has flagged her up from a time angle as well.
To finish today's piece another quote from
www.b2yor.co.uk:
Also a good example of an irritating practice with Twitter. Connections of horses - trainers, owners, breeders, sales houses, etc. etc. - popping up with "Boy can I train/own/breed/auction ...." Tweets every time they stumnle into a win. Qatar Racing's Bloodstock advisor and Prince Frank's Boss soon, David Redvers on Twitter after Terror's win with a "oy that was impressive, boy can I bloodstock..." type Tweet. But no worthwhile insight into Terror's background, what quality the win actually was, etc.
But, the really irritating thing is the terrible cherry-picking & positive confirmation. The Redvers' Tweet would be acceptable if he ever sent Tweets lie - "Jeez, but that Total Domination is stinking the place out..". Or, "Why did we buy Thumper? & when is ruddy Cowell ever going to get him fit??". "
Now, I don't use my Twitter account very often but I have read stuff similar to this on forums and it can become very irritating.
