First season sires and other 2-y-o stuff 2014

Starting at a prohibitive 30/100 the War Front colt, The Great War, won impressively at Tipperary yesterday.

Very well developed, he looked like a 3-y-o already.

looked impressive colin. job never raised the whip once won under hands and heels. looked a big powerful horse.
 
One to keep an eye on from Beverley yesterday : Make On Madam (Brian Ellison) gave the rest of the field half-a-dozen lengths start when missing the break, was hard ridden at the back of the field until making ground over a furlong out, then had to be switched to get a run and was going on well at the finish. An extra furlong would probably help but should be capable of winning something modest.

PACO BOY is the only one with a runner today.

Moderate racing around yesterday but there three interesting debuts made.

Pontefract 2.10 ZEELA (T.Easterby)
Southwell 3.30 RITA'S BOY(K.Burke)
Brighton 4.50 LORETTA MARTIN (M.Channon)

All three ran similar races, slowly away finishing strongly, the first two taking second place but the Channon filly got up on the line.

Better than the form they have to their names and worth keeping an eye out for.
 
Promising debut by Aktabantay at Newmarket yesterday. The Hugo Palmer-trained Oasis Dream colt was sluggish from the stalls, looked a touch outpaced early on but made ground and was running on really well up the hill and only just failed to get up. An extra furlong looks ideal.

The Great War, so impressive at Limerick on debut, reappears at the Curragh today but the current price of 1/5 looks a touch prohibitive.
 
The first at Catterick yesterday was probably a weak event but Olivia Fallow showed some ability; she went violently right from the stalls but then was taken over to the rail and under considerate handling kept on nicely for fourth. Her SP of 16/1 suggests that she wasn't expected to do great things on her debut but she showed enough to suggest she might win a small race.
 
Two interesting, on breeding, runners in the Ascot 4.25.

Moonraker (M.Channon) is closely related to a number of decent animals including Group Therapy and Bungleinthejungle.

Winslow (C. Appleby) is a half-brother to top American 2-y-o New Year's Day, and he cost a small fortune.
 
Both STARSPANGLEDBANNER and HELLVELYN had a winner yesterday.
