Flatties to follow 2024

SHAREHOLDER - WON 12/1 - just like the same connections' Queen Mary winner the previous day, Leovanni, he cost a lot at the breeze-ups (460,000euros) and came in as a debut winner, yet was really weak in the market. He won in the same style as Leovanni, too, travelling deep into the race in the far-side group and seeing it out despite going left in the closing stages. This colt had shaped better than the narrow margin of victory at Beverley (keen early, made early headway out wide into a headwind). He's achieved a lot in a short space of time - his sale was only on May 11 - and he has a lot of raw talent.RP
STARLORE - 25th - Raced centre, towards rear throughout, 9th of 9 in group (op 11/1)
KOY KOY - 23rd- Raced near side, prominent, weakened over 2f out, 14th of 14 in group (op 12/1)
MR PROFESSOR - 20th - Raced centre, towards rear, carried right 2f out, soon weakened, 6th of 10 in group (op 66/1)

Notched up a third success and opened her account on turf in Lingfield handicap 3 weeks ago, showing a nice turn of foot and comfortably coming clear. This is plenty tougher up 6 lb but she could have more to come.

Caught the eye when third in the Fred Darling on reappearance at Newbury and relished a well-run 1m when getting up close home to win the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on just her third career start. That clearly puts her right in the mix here on form with the promise of more to come, too.

Very well-bred filly out of Midday and proving most progressive, taking her record to 2-3 with a bit to spare in a strong race at Doncaster (1m) on her return. One to follow and her stay in handicaps could be short.

Dual winner at 2 yrs who stepped up on his reappearance when second of 15 in Derby Italiano at Rome (10.9f, soft) 33 days ago. This demands a good deal more but the further step up in trip could suit.

Royal Supremacy was added in the hope he'd stay in handicaps but Balding has ruined that by running him in the Italian Derby. Nice prize money for second but he might struggle to win another race a la Typewiter who he did a similar thing with (second in a Cheshire Oaks when rated 79) a few years back.

40/1 third wasn’t so shabby, Euro :)

Results:

ARISAIG 8th - up 6lb for her recent Leicester win, travelled notably well under a typically confident Jamie Spencer hold-up ride, but her progress stalled when hanging left in the final furlong. It seems this trip stretches her.RP

ELMALKA 4th - produced a sustained run to win the 1,000 Guineas but it seemed clear then she was going to need further sooner rather than later and she wasn't quick enough for this.RP

INDELIBLE 4th - chasing a hat-trick following wins on the Polytrack at Lingfield and on good to soft ground under a penalty at Doncaster, was strong in the market ahead of this handicap debut and did little wrong, doing best of those to race on the far side. She retains plenty of potential.RP

ROYAL SUPREMACY 3rd 40/1 - runner-up in the Italian Derby and supplemented for this race, ran creditably without quite having the gears.RP

Produced a really smart handicap performance when bossing a deep field from a BHA mark of 108 on just his fourth career start at Newcastle on Good Friday. Failed to repeat that pitched into a Group 1 on his first outing on turf at the Curragh but it's too soon to writing him off.

Won at Chelmsford City in February and has been holding his form well since, a good third at Doncaster 22 days ago. Should be on the premises again.

Promising type. Fourth of 11 in maiden (66/1) at this C&D (good) on debut 34 days ago, likely to have finished right on the heels of the principals with a clear run. Will improve.

Didn't need to be at best when winning 9-runner maiden at Thirsk (8f, good to firm, 4/7) 21 days ago, bit in hand. Still needs some improvement from this mark.

Results:

East Hampton - 5th 17/2 - was a huge eye-catcher on his debut, this effort posed more questions than answers. He travelled well behind the leaders and looked like he was going to go and win his race over 1f out. but he did not seem that keen to go through the gap and go past. He has a lot of ability and perhaps he still retained a bit of greenness, so it is a bit premature to write him off.RP

Ebt’s Guard 2nd 5/1 - challenged on the far side, travelling well although not running straight, and was just unable to follow up his maiden win last time. He can remain competitive off this sort of mark. RP

Won a 6f Goodwood novice on soft last autumn and arrives here having finished runner-up on each of his last 2 starts, not aiding his cause by hanging badly left back at Goodwood (7f) 5 weeks ago. On a workable mark and he needs considering.

Fair form in trio of 1m maidens during second half of last season and improved for step up in trip/switch to handicaps when third of 10 on return at Salisbury (9.9f) earlier this month. Bred to be a fair bit better than her opening mark and likely she can do better. Up in trip.

Perfect Part -2nd 13/8f - who beat the Queen Mary third when springing a 125/1 shock in the Hilary Needler over C&D, had no answers to a promising newcomer but finished clear of the rest. Her rider was suspended for two days for careless riding having drifted right early on.RP

Dual winner at 2 yrs and looked unlucky not to land a hot Chester (5.1f) handicap on return, finishing with a flourish. Good third in the 3YO "Dash" at Epsom (again strong form) 5 weeks ago and leading claims down in class.

Very well-bred filly out of Midday and proving most progressive, landing a useful race at Doncaster (1m) on her return and shaping well in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot, first home in her group (Soprano the winner). More to come.

Beautifully-bred filly who won the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes over this C&D on only her fourth-career start 4 weeks, just holding off Lady Boba and clear of rest. Has the scope to improve again and big shout for trainer who has won this a record 9 times.

Looked a smart prospect when landing good York listed event over this trip last summer. Final run easily excused (sweated up) and shaped as if needing the run when 2½ lengths fourth of 13 to Queen of The Pride in Pinnacle Stakes at this C&D (good to firm) on return. Better expected now.

Due For Luck - 5th 11/4f - was tucked in behind the leader and travelled well, but he didn't find as much this time as looked likely.RP

Queen of the Pride - WON 100/30 - is extremely well bred and took another big step forward, in the process giving her stable a tenth win in this Group 2. Patiently ridden, she made her challenge on the far side of the pack and galloped clear powerfully. Connections will be keen to win a Group 1 now, and she'll get further, which broadens opportunities.RP

Indelible - 2nd 7/2 - kept track on the winner towards the far side but just couldn't get past her. Given her pedigree she's likely to be happier back on a sounder surface.RP

Regal Jubilee - 4th 9/4f - briefly threatened to run on and challenge, but she got leg-weary in the closing stages, which was a bit surprising considering she stays 1m2f and has won in heavy ground before.RP

Sea Theme - 6th 6/1 - had made a promising reappearance behind QUEEN OF THE PRIDE here but was beaten much further this time. She's won on soft going but connections consider her better on quicker ground.RP
Aviation Time - 4th 16/5 - In touch, pushed along behind leader pair over 1 1/2f out, switched right over 1f out, kept on inside final furlong but never threatened.
