Flatties to follow 2025

Good run by Polestar in the Maiden at Chester - so green but stayed on well. But the winner, Al Wasl Storm looked OK considering he was bought at a NH foal sale for peanuts! Lovely gutsy attitude.

BRAVE MISSION
I like him and I thought it was a good effort on his last start. I hope he will be in those mile to a mile and a quarter three year old only handicaps going through to Royal Ascot. We will probably start him over a mile then we will work out where we go. He could be a Britannia horse or one for the Golden Gates Handicap. I think from what we have seen at home he has done well from two to three and there is mileage in him.

Hopefully, he's a candidate for the Britannia. He's in good form and could start in a mile handicap at Newmarket on Friday.

In the 2.42, my eye was drawn to Ramazan, who has dropped to a very attractive mark of 97. He prefers a softer surface, so I’m thinking and hoping Wednesday isn’t the day. However, I think he is one for a big handicap later in the season when the ground eases and is in my tracker.
I posted the above on the the Dante thread and he finished well down the field. However, he actually ran quite well after losing many lengths and any chance at the start. He wasn’t fancied at all and was available at 33/1 at the off, compared with about 10/1 on Monday. It would be great if he could drop a couple of pounds for that and turn up somewhere with a softer surface. I think he might win a big handicap this season.

Sovereign Sea ran a nice race on his turf debut (2.25 Newbury) to finish second to the fav. I'd say that was a nice run and I will be backing him next time.

Italy 5.05 was a taking winner of the 7f 2yo Maiden. Be interesting to see where he goes next. You'd think the Chesham but is it still for those sired by a stallion that won over 1m2f? Always used to be. This lad is by Wootton Bassett who didn't. He's out of a full-sister to Serpentine (rest of pedigree is fair)

Couple caught my eye last week. At Sandown on the Thursday eve meeting I liked the run of EBT's Guard in the mile handicap for 3yos. This fella is out of a Nathaniel mare so I'm thinking he'll improve for further but having said that he was a bit keen here so I'm not totally sure what his optimum trip is. I backed Zipster in this race and he hated the soft ground, EBT's guard didn't look all at sea on it but he did change his legs four or five times in the last half furlong so better groound would be optimal.

The other horse is Boyfriend for the Hannon's. This colt "enjoyed" a typically awful Pat Dobbs ride at Goodwood on Friday. Drawn 1 rather than race just behind the pace he was three deep on the rail, didn't get a run and ended up being taken back and around the field before finishing like a train. He's interesting going forward hopefully with Levey up top.

Boyfriend just ran an absolute stormer at Newbury after being off close to a year. Has to go in the note book especially as he came from off the pace in his last run at Goodwood last year which turned into a really good race.

I was watching my cliff horse, Ancient Rome in that. He gave me a good payday on his first run for the yard two years ago at Goodwood. Two runs in Meydan after gelding and wind op, he wasn't off a yard today without Jamie Spencer on. I suspect he's being lined up for Ascot.

Hallelujah U - Third in a slow run 10f handicap behind a Godolphin animal, he's related to some nice boats and needs 12f imo.
Could be a Melrose type. Needs a trip and it's to his credit he ran so well over 10 at Newmarket in a good race (Merchant ahead of him who also looks a likely type for the York boatshow) which imo is way more interesting than the Ebor.

1. Almudena - (rated 79) - 655/44431123-

4yo filly - Study Of Man x Albamara ( Galileo )

Sir Mark Prescott - Miss Kirsten Rausing

Entered for the 2:40 two mile handicap at Goodwood on May 23rd as is the stable's Trooper Bisdee. Accruing prize money in small instalments may not be the main objective for this one.

2. Godsend - ( rated 80) - 5768/612111-

4yo gelding - Nathaniel x Floriss ( Medicean )

Sir Mark Prescott

One of three declared runners for the 2:32 two mile handicap at Nottingham on May 20th. Won't be a rewarding price. The BHA has withdrawn its policy of cancelling Class 4 ( and below ) handicaps with three or fewer declared runners.

3. Blindedbythelights - ( rated 84) - 769/12122/4-2

5yo gelding - Protectionist x Batya ( Whipper )

Sir Mark Prescott - Middleham Park Racing XXXV

Beaten a short-head in a class 2 handicap at Newmarket on May 3rd.

All three hold entries in the Northumberland Plate on June 28th which I think is a race that Sir Mark Prescott has never won. They need to go up a bit in the weights as bottom weight last year was rated 86.

I was tempted by him as well but an 8lb rise put me off.

Horses that went into my digital notebook this week:

Mythical Composer - Beaten 4l by a smart looking handicap debutant at Donny last Saturday he was a length and a half clear of the third and was kept to the same mark. Clive Cox trains.

Midnight Tango - first two year old on my list. This filly (like her older stable and owner mate Vicario) did not like the Rowley Mile dip but despite this I think she ran well, she'll also improve for 7f as well as a flatter track.

Venezualan - Ralph Beckett 3yo who was another all at sea in the dip but he and Best Adventure pulled well clear of their rivals and he can win on a more suitable track.

Best Rate - The 7f handicap for 3yos at York he was second in is usually a rich source of future winners (Elmonjed and Blue Prince who won at Glorious Goodwood both ran in it last year) and this gelding did well to finish second considering he had his run stopped twice.

Nothing from the London Gold Cup which is unusual but I thought Notable Speech did well coming from the back in the Lockinge on a day that it seemed to be an advantage being at or near the front. I think 6/1 is very fair about him for the Queen Anne.

I hadn't spotted the big rise.

Do agree with your last para though on the LGC - it's become a race that throws up some good ones but I was a bit underwhelmed this time round. Notable Speech too I thought ran far better than he's been given credit for. So called experts are throwing out his chances at Ascot as he bombed last year but that was off the back of three quick runs and then into the Guineas which may have been a bit much. He then ran "awesome" at Goodwood but bombed on soft at Longchamp before running a pretty good race in the BC where he was beaten barely a length. He's top of my bets for Ascot anyway.

,
Good luck,Jinny - though to my eyes NS's form shouts out he's not a stiff 1m horse; despite the Guineas win.

I had a good afternoon yesterday, but boy oh boy if Kildare Legend had held on in the class two handicap at Haydock, it would have been even more profitable.

That said, he ran a fantastic race from the front, just getting mugged by a really solid handicapper in Stressfree.

If the handicapper doesn't overeact which I'm sure he won't, I'd be interested in Kildare Legend for furure races, maybe even the 1M4F handicap at Royal Ascot.

The trainer is capable. The same connections also had Deauville Legend who went close to winning the aforementioned handicap at Royal Ascot, before becoming a group horse. I'm sure the owner will hope for something similar with Kildare. He did all the donkey work yesterday, but given a wee bit more improvement he can win a good race.

He won with cut in the ground at Doncaster and that might be a plus for him going forward, especially if he's getting done for a bit of toe at the business end.
