Flatties to follow 2025

A couple from yesterday at Goodwood

Sands of Spain is the bonniest colt and a proper 5f 2yo. I really liked him in the paddock although I wasn't going to ignore the early hype on Lady Iman. I would think this colt would easily pick up a decent race this year (he came the wrong side with the Godolphin runner)

Mdaawi - thought he was a decent ew shot yesterday and to be honest I wasn't sure he looked 100% off yesterday for much of the race with his jockey seemingly being less than enthusiastic on him until it was clear if he didn't do something, he was in danger of being spotted so he got vigorous and finished second. With a better ride, I suspect he would have won. I see he is entered here on Friday - interesting although not 22-1 sadly.
 
Two handicaps last Saturday, the one at York that Elmonjed won and the International - I'm interested going forward in Almarada Prince from the former and Lord Bertie from Ascot. Both horses missed the start badly and both ran on really well. Lord Bertie I'm backing for the Balmoral when prices come out and whilst Almarada Prince is quite exposed he has good back form and I think a plot is afoot with his new trainer who is quite shrewd - Ayr possibly.

I agree Lord Bertie is one to keep onside.

The race Elmonjed was in, also featured Strike Red, who ran very well and at one stage looked like he was coming to win, from the wrong side of the track. He interests me in the Stewards Cup at 25/1, Elmonjed is favourite, 11/2 last time I looked, but 4lb worse off for 1.25 lengths. Mind you, difficult enough race with ground and draw uncertainty added to the mix.
 
Put Galveston up for the Gordon Stakes today, bit that was before the Maelstrom.
It was clear early that Ryan didn't fancy the changed surface,and the colt was allowed to stroll home .so,e 39l ehind the winner.TM repoorted the winner had 'wheelspin' on the wet surface a few times.
Pretty certain he's much better than that so worth watching wherever he goes.

Primo Lara has ran an eye-catching race just now in 6th place at Goodwood, staying on well.

He goes in my tracker and is now worth following over this distance or a bit further for the rest of this season.

Went in my tracker PB. He had a bad draw and was rousted along early to lead and wasn't beaten a distance. The pace didn't hold up in this race (the first three home occupied the last three places as they entered the straight.) and like I said High Degree ran well in the circumstance as did Daiquiri Bay who also went in the notebook.

Others that caught my eye at Goodwood:

Defiance. Obvious one in Wednesday's opener. Didn't have the best of passages, finished strong.
Morris Dancer. 2yo, was detached and outpaced in the Vintage. Interesting in good races over a stiffer 7, maybe 8
Tribal Chief. Lost many lengths at the start of the Golden Mile, wasn't beaten far. He has a habit of being tardy at the start and I'm only interested in him if he runs in the Cambridgeshire.
Dance in the Storm. Narrowly beat by Mudbir on the Saturday. Another that was poorly(ish) drawn and did well. Top trainer.

He's entered in handicaps at York and Goodwood on Saturday, and another race at Beverley on Sunday. He's won at York before. This is a class two race, where the horse who won at Goodwood the day Primo Lara was sixth, Gladius, is also entered. Although Gladius is also entered in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes earlier on the card.

Primo Lara declared in the 2.05 class 4 race at Beverley tomorrow. I think he has a very live chance. He was staying on at Goodwood last time from the back, in a race where hardly anything did. Gladius won that race there and goes for the Group 3 at York today. Enough said.
