Galway/ Goodwood Festivals 2014

Great to see Miss United win.............sadly she was retired afterwards.

Such a pity thy never saw fit to interview her trainer after the race.

He's one very good trainer who really deserves every winner he has

Plus there no one on the planet who has the grasp on gibberish he has.

I just love listening to the guy even if I only understand half of it.

Panama Hat may have gone up 20lbs since he won his first race and it may help the opposition but with only 8st9lbs to carry he'll wonder where his jockey went and have the majority of these gasping for air after a mile.

He may have some company up front from Stanfield Lady but that hasn't bothered him in the past and he's such a relaxed individual she's more likely to get buzzed up than him.

This may be a step up in class but I reckon it's more of a stepping stone to bigger and better things for a horse we have yet to see the best of.

Panama Hat (Nap) 11/2

A brave man to oppose not one but two Tony Martin horses in a Galway handicap. Talking of master stroke-pullers, I have to mention Denis Hogan's Ridestan in the 5.35 yesterday. Backed from 7/2 to 7/4, kicked on from a good draw and had it won by the time they turned in.

Extortionist (3.40) forced a strong Curragh pace, and didn't last home as a consequence.
Held up lto, he travelled much better, and disposed of some useful types in about half a furlong. This sharper track should see him in an even better light.

TBH I never gave Channel 4 a second thought. Forgot they cover racing :0) The only time I open it is if I want to see a movie

I use Shadow Net TV on my comp which streams all the UK programs plus ATR and RUK so I watch them when I'm not on BF.

2.21am here..........waited up to back this would be wonder horse Forgotten Rules,

Hope I don't have to forget it after the race LOL

Discussiontofollow (Stewards) ran 3rd in a valuable 6.5f Curragh handicap which he probably would have won, had he not been boxed in for all but the final half-furlong.
Dropped back to he minimum trip for anoher big prize at Ascot, he then ran an amazing race. Drawn furthest away from the pace, he was dropped in behind the whole field, gradually moved across (all the while, travelling like a dream) and proceeded to take out he whole field in the closing stages.
Class, gear change over the wrong trip, and improving - bet of the meeting, imo.

Mick Channon has had the Stewards Cup in mind for Arnold Lane for some time and has booked Australian superstar Craig Williams to ride.

He will be hoping for third time lucky having finished 2nd in both his previous visits.

He won over this trip back in May 2013 in Germany. He wasn't knocked about at either Windsor or Chester but showed definite signs that a return to form was just round the corner.

He'll be better than 50 on the machine and around 8 to 10 if they go 5 places.

He'll need luck in running but I intend having a bit on at both.

The Nassau Stakes looks a very poor renewal

Mango Diva won in Ireland and she's as game as a pebble but they all finished in a heap and I doubt if she'll be good enough.

Can't possibly back the French horse as I have no idea how she will react to the fast ground.

If the French horse doesn't go on the ground his could be a steering job for young Joseph who's riding gets better by the day.

Venus De Milo anything over 3/1 looks generous

All trained by Dermott Weld............ will have a wee treble on for luck.

Great stuff, EC1. It must have taken some nerve to ride a close finish and then get your horse around that right angle bend.

it still looks a keen bend even now..have they altered the layout there?

been looking at Goodwood layout a lot this week..unreal racecourse with all the difference courses snaking all over

i never really appreciated how downhill the length of the straight is either

i'll have to go there at some point..looks amazing

An unbelievable track; almost like Epsom in reverse .
Ground was rock hard there on Thursday due to extremely warm temperatures.
Like you it is on my bucket list for some time; knowing my luck the fog will spoil the view.
By the way, bookies in Galway still licking their wounds after Missunited this year.
Reported by Seamus Mulvaney that he never paid out so much on an away race. Reports of 5 euro punters having 50 and 60 on her to win.
Pity Simon Knott was not there for "tales from the ring"
A lovely touch on Vexalco went astray with that mistake by all accounts.
Lots of 12/1 hoovered up all for nought.
A job horse for the future like Ted Veale me thinks.
