Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup

I wonder if they've been plotting Long Run up for this. They must have realised in March a repeat Gold Cup win was out so what's left? The only way to pick up big money is in the big handicaps.

We've recently seen Willie Mullins come clean about On His Own and if they target the Hennessy with him he'll have a real shout.

Yesterday morning Barry Geraghty stated on the Morning Line that the word at Seven Barrows was that Long Run was possibly better than ever. Yesterday afternoon saw him run a lifeless race and now we're being told he scoped badly.

Long Run might well come down a few pounds for that bad race and could well get into the Hennessy on a very exploitable mark and afterwards all they have to say was, "We did tell you..."

Well, they are short a few bob, DO, and I'm sure they'd much rather win a Hennessy than p*ss about with King Georges and the like.

But they could win the huge pot the Hennessy has on offer (rather than the relative peanuts of yesterday's race) and then say he is back to his very best so we have to go for the King George now.

Rallied after last over an inadequate 2m4f, and just failed to get up by a nose.

I call that a very handy Hennessy trial myself.

Are the stats conclusive, EC1?

Off the top of my head, there do seem to have been a deal of recent winners who went to Newbury with no previous run. Denman twice I think, Bobs Worth too, and the Hemmings yoke that won the RSA the year before (name escapes me, but didn't have much luck with injuries)...beat L'Ami perhaps?

No. I was there. He didn't jump well enough... Again

There will be no such rallying from mistakes in the Hennessy

a better one though is not to have a run at all this season

That's what I call a daft stat ec.

What logic is there to it? Without logic is just a stat without meaning.

Bit like grasshopper I suppose

Fair enough, clivex - I didn't see the race, and you're right; you don't want to be on a moody jumper.

Trabolgan Grassy.

the logic being that you need a really good horse to win it..so you don't risk prep races with such a horse..could pick up an injury etc....you get it ready at home..prep races is for lesser events imo

year in year out i keep telling you what won't win the CH due to running in wrong races..and year in year out i keep being told its rubbish..but it keep getting results:)

don't forget..whatever wins the fighting fifth..cross it off the CH list:)

You'll be hoping for low sun with this dreadful lepper, Grassy. Makes Stormez look spring-heeled. :ninja:

Hmmn...that'll be two bad jumpers I've backed in the Hennessy in the one sentence then.

Fu*ck it. Goulanes big enough to bulldoze through them if they get in the way.
