We can almost be certain Rip Van Winkle runs. He lookes like being a shade odds on when it is 100% confirmed. Surely he is worth taking on?
Disappointed Fame And Glory is not running as I think we were going to learn alot more about him in this race - but I think Rip Van Winkle should be a comfortable winner. I hope they ride him a bit more aggressively.
Why?
I'm struggling to find a reason to take him on. 11/4 each way 3 places is the only reasonable alterrnative. Twice Over will be a bigger price on the day but probably to only two places.
It could still turn into a cracker. Twice Over looked far more likely to go straight to Newmarket for their Champion Stakes so it has to be a positive for his chances that they reoppose Rip Van Winkle. I can't see there being much between them.
According to O'Brien final running plans for the Group 1 Leopardstown event won't be made until Friday morning but Rip Van Winkle, Cape Blanco and Beethoven look like representing the stable in a race O'Brien has won on five occasions.
Fame And Glory, who ran second to Sea The Stars in the race a year ago, has not yet been ruled out of Saturday's renewal but he may wait for the Prix Foy at Longchamp on September 12 before contesting the Qatar Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe next month.
Johnny Murtagh, the Ballydoyle number one, will be at Leopardstown on Saturday when he is expected to partner Rip Van Winkle in the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes.
I think Rip around evens is one if the bets if the season.
