Irish Horse Meat in UK Food

it makes me laugh how us English eat food without even realising something isn't what it says on the box..its a beef lasagne ffs..it must have tasted like sh1te

its the same with fish and chip shops..50% of them have the most rancid tasting chips due to the fat not being changed often enough..but the English keep queuing up for the crap.

It always amazed me that it was very hard to find decent fish and chips in London.

There's a north/south divide with fish and chips. In the north they use beef dripping and the results are outstanding. In the south they're crap normally.

We have a really good chippy down the road from us but due to the cost I have stopped going - I cant eat cod or haddock so order skate which now costs about £10 with chips!

Have a friend who used to cook for us when we popped round and her shop of choice was Morrisons (with Asda as a backup!). She couldnt understand why the same meal tasted so much nicer when I did it until I said a) better butcher and b) pay more for a smaller cut and you get the quality.

Not sure she ever quite got the theory but she stopped serving steaks when we went and only had them at ours :)

What really bugs me is if a local butcher had sold horse meat as beef then they would have been shut down, yet all the offending supermarkets are allowed to stay open. Why?

Sea Shell Marylebone. Famous
Masters Waterloo
Sea Fresh Pimlico
Rock sol plaice covent garden (bit pricey now though)
Golden Hind Marylebone
Pier (chain of a few)
Fish Kitchen Borough market (maybe the best)

and three very good ones local to my area

tried all the above and all excellent. Competition always tight in london so they have to be.

poppies in spitalfields is supposed to be first class and one thats raved about along with Kerbisher & Malt

Amazes me that "cant find decent" when a quick look on net (time out) will point in right direction

the north south comment is dumb. I've had awful and fantastic in the north but key thing is that not everyone wants heavy fat

I would like to apologise to our friends across the sea for thinking the same as the title of this thread when the story first broke. Now the facts have been revealed we are indebted to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland for their professionalism and proficiency.
