Jockey News

Brian Hughes is at AP level at the moment Col..unreal riding..watch the head to head he had with Richard Johnson today..who must be one of the best NH jocks in a finish..watch the 2.15 race at sedgefield today..awesome riding by Hughes

Graham Gibbons reported to BHA for handing in a urine sample from another jockey at Kempton last night rather than his own.
Suppose that's what they call "taking the p*ss"

This Gibbons tale is probably a bit sadder than it appears at first glance. He has battled alcoholism in the past, and was even arrested at Wolverhampton races after riding a double having failed to turn up in court for drunk and disorderly charges. Was having an excellent winter and will be a shame if this incident derails it.

Word at the racecouse today was that Ryan Hatch had broken bones in his sternum and his back, however the IJF are little more cautious and have just released this statement

“To clarify, Ryan Hatch remains in Bristol Southmead Hospital where he is undergoing further examination for his injuries sustained at Cheltenham Racecourse yesterday. He has not had an operation.
Our job at the IJF is to provide accurate information on behalf of the jockey and his family in a timely and appropriate fashion.
We will relay a further accurate update when there is one.”

Drink can be a terrible curse.

Injured Jockeys Fund update on Ryan Hatch

On behalf of Ryan and his family, Lisa Hancock, CEO of the Injured Jockeys Fund says:
“Following his fall at Cheltenham Racecourse last Friday, repeat X-rays carried out in Bristol Southmead hospital yesterday have shown that Ryan has suffered fractures of his C6 and C7 at the base of his neck. He has also fractured his sternum and has fractures of his T6, which is just below the shoulder blade. He has a spinal haematoma which is shown to be decreasing.
It is anticipated that Ryan will remain in Southmead hospital for the foreseeable future.
Any visitors to the hospital should please contact either Ryan or his father John in advance of visiting.”
