2 wins from 5 runs this season. Latest win in hurdle at Cork in November. 10/1, very good third of 19 in handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, soft) 24 days ago, running on. On the upgrade recently.starstarstarstar

5th/13 9/2 -
Conyers Hill improved his position from well off the pace to be nearest at the finish.RP

Useful hurdler. 9/4, fourth of 10 in novice chase at Thurles (18.4f, good to soft) on debut over fences 27 days ago. Open to improvement. Each-way shout.starstar

4th/8 8/1 - Monbeg Park ran a funny race, shaping as though he needs a much stiffer test of stamina over fences.RP.

Real chasing type who created an excellent impression when scoring on debut in this sphere here (20.5f) last term and followed that with a good effort in defeat at Chepstow. Disappointed since (walk over at Newbury), though, including on return. starstarstar

4th/7 15/2 - Dalamoi was successful on his previous outing around here last year and, back on a sounder surface, shaped a lot more encouragingly. A drop back in trip might help.RP

Much improved since switching to chasing, scoring on debut at Aintree (15.8f) before good second in handicap over same C&D last month. Up 6 lb for that narrow miss and didn't really lose anything in defeat when conceding first run to Elixir de Nutz at Newbury earlier this month. Even more to come. starstarstarstar

WON 13/8 - MASTER CHEWY, runner-up from a mark of 137 at Newbury, had been found a pretty weak opening for a Grade 2 and scored with something to spare. He's improving, but the race set up perfectly for him and stiffer tests await.RP

CONYERS HILL a drifter from 7/2 fav out to 9/2 late was held up at the back. Sean O'Keefe never moved a muscle until approaching last and gave the horse absolutely no chance....made up lots of ground but never in put the race definitely a stopping job if ever there was one. The Racing Post summary even hinted at it. This is a very talented horse and when dropped a few pounds will be subject of a gamble or I'm a Dutchman.

Showed improved form during the spring, recording back-to-back handicap wins at Cheltenham (20.6f) and Southwell (24.3f) in April. Has remained in form since but this looks a stiff task.starstar

Fairly useful winner over hurdles but very much a chasing type and built on an encouraging start in this sphere when getting off the mark at Wetherby in November. Backed it up with a solid third at Doncaster and may yet have more to offer.starstarstar

Wide-margin winner of sole start between the flags back in October 2021 and has looked a good prospect when taking a Taunton bumper and 2½m Carlisle novice hurdle on his 2 starts under Rules. This a big step up in class but he could be capable of a lot better. starstarstar

Dual hurdles winner who scored twice over fences at Kelso last season. Unlucky not to add another win at that course last month (suffered interference at a crucial stage of the race) and unseated at Ayr since. Remains of interest.starstarstarstar

Not interested in this horse until he goes right handed. Giving Ned one final chance

There was still a long way to go when Ned unseated, but I thought he was travelling very nicely up to then. Held at the back, but kept gaining a length or so at the fences and he kept on jumping when loose, despite plenty of opportunity to run out, which is always a good sign. If market permits I’ll probably give him a go.

2m4 is on the short side for him but it will be testing tomorrow and if he replicates his run here behind Richmond Lake last back end (franked city form that) he must go close.

Walking on Air a fair hurdler, was possibly unlucky not to win today at Newbury in his first go over fences. I’d definitely back him next time and be considering him for March too.

Useful on Flat in Germany and has been very quick in getting the hang of hurdling, winning extended 2m Taunton novice and running well from a good prominent position in Cheltenham handicap a fortnight ago. Headgear left off this time. Respected.starstarstar

Finished re-watching all the Xmas action last night and I totally messed up rostering my time. Boxing Day took me 70 mins, 27th,28th and 29th (Wed,Thur,Fri) took me an hour and 50 mins, this past Sat/Sun took 15 minutes.

My main Ante-post positions for Cheltenham (Facile Vega in a couple of rollovers, Gerri at double figures and one rollover) took a beating but I'm not giving up hope. FV was given a terrible ride and surely would have duffed up the nags Marine Nationale but to task in his race. Gerri should have been held up more and I do think there's a whiff that GDC jumps better at Leop than Cheltenham.

For this thread only a couple of horses went into my tracker:

The King of PRS won a rated novice chase at Limerick on Boxing Day. You don't often see horses finish as fast as this lad did over the usual mudpit on this track. He's in the hands of a top trainer and I wouldn't mind seeing him taken to Cheltenham in March. Has a chance of improving over further than two miles also.

Parisencore lost a shoe in going down narrowly at Doncaster on the 29th in a race where the front two cut each other's throats and the winner was held up at the back of the field. I also saw enough evidence to suggest that this Nicky Richards charge might be better going right handed as well. He's got scope to progress as this was only his second run over fences.

I missed out Grangeclare West from my Christmas Crackers list (blog). I thought he jumped reall well in beating Corbetts Cross at Leopardstown pretty much without trying. I think jumping like that will hold him in good stead, particularly since Paul Townend has got him to run more amenably.

Otherwise I had two for the thread from my list, but Jinny has already put up Walking On Air so I’m left with just Ambion View who came third in the Wincanton bumper at 40/1 on Boxing Day. He’ll presumably be off over hurdles now and up in distance which will suit much better. Joe Tizzard reckons he is a beautiful horse and he might prove interesting.

Smart ex-French hurdler who impressed when landing Cork novice hurdle in April who marked himself down as an exciting prospect when narrowly defeating stablemate on chase debut at Fairyhouse in November. Big player with prospect of plenty more to come. starstarstarstarstar

Just to let you know that The King Of Ryhope is entered in the Towton on Saturday and will run. I'd be hopeful he'll go very close.

He can perhaps steal some decent prizemoney with him though Nick. Perhaps 6 runners or less after final decs I'd expect. I would think both Apples Away and Trelawne will go to Warwick, and Willie is mark fishing with his.

It's likely Chasing Fire, Colonel Harry, and Crebilly will all turn up though, so they'll all give The King Of Ryhope a test. He's a much better horse than the mark though, and you can ignore the run at Ffos Las where it was the worst conditions you'll ever see. They shouldn't have been racing. We hadn't been able to get a run anywhere because of the ground though, and the race was as late as we were prepared to go with The Towton as his first seasonal target only four weeks away, and him needing sufficient time between races. Harry and I spoke before the race at Ffos Las and if he didn't act on it he was going to get looked after, which is exactly what happened. He lost a shoe early and hated every second of it. Fortunately that has allowed me to avail of 10/1 (PP and BFSB), early prices, which is a massive bonus, as I genuinely think he'll win the race.

Been a bit remiss keeping up with the score - sorry. Won’t bother with the missed write ups, but here’s the score which will make the bookies laugh Running Balance: - 35:50

OFF THE JURY David Maxwell I just did this to win and this was a disappointing ride, even Mick Fitz and Chapman more or less said he didnt try.

Deserves it's own thread:D

It was shocking, i stopped betting on NH racing during the week last year, i just stick to the A.W now

As you say even Mick (i never slag jockeys off) Fitzgerald had a pop

It was that bad

Insofar as Mr D Maxwell is concerned, missing out on his winners is a much slower route to the poorhouse than backing the ones he’s on.

If I like one of his in a race, I immediately move onto a different race to bet in.
