King George VI Chase

With the Irish government meeting to consider travel restrictions from the Uk I have cashed out my bets on Monalee for the King George.

I was thinking 6-days, pal, but they’re obviously already gone.

Hanging-out hoping Whittington declares Saint Calvados, but Maruco and Frontrunner reckon the yard’s in the shitter, atm.

He's been declared.

Black Op, Clan, Cyrname, Frodon, Lostintransaltion, Monalee, Real Steel, Saint Calvados, Santini and Waiting Patiently.

Did anyone see that interview with John Francome on ITV on Saturday. When asked about the best jumper he’d ever seen I’m sure he said Frodon but I may have misheard and I can’t get catchup where I am at the moment. I’d love Waiting Patiently to win.

He said Frodon alright, thought it was strange. Might be a victim of recency bias!!!

Francome may have been a great jockey but he talks some shyte.

Imagine Frodon trying to outump the likes of Wayward Lad or Pendil

Native River jumped him into submission at Aintree utter tosh from Francome

It makes no sense to me. Unless he was ridiculously unfit at Aintree and he did better than expected plugging on. That, or they think this could be easier than taking on Champ in the cotswold.

Absolutely…really struggling to understand the reason for it. Perhaps it’s a way round the Covid restrictions so the Kelvin-Hughes can get out of the house!!?

He didn’t (as some would have you believe) totally hate the course or completely blow out on his one go here - a staying on 3.5 length 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] in a 3m Grade 1, just behind that seasons RSA winner. But, it clearly doesn’t play to his strengths and another bizarre Hendo decision

Hendo has always insisted the horse is very hard to get fit. They probably reckon he has enough class relative to the runners outwith the big two to recoup the supplementary fee despite still needing the run.

I wouldn't be surprised if Santini outran expectations last time and if he's improved 10lbs for it he probably wouldn't be far off his Gold Cup level.

I don't imagine Kempton would be his track but they tend to go very fast all the way in the King George and that might help him in the final half-mile.

It does add a wee bit of intrigue to the race.

Santini and Lostintranslation will be the battle of who comes off the bridle first on the first circuit.

Why should Santini come off the bridle so early? It's not as if they'll be going two-mile pace. On ORs he's the second-best horse in the race and his rating came in a race for which he had an interrupted preparation and some bad luck in running.

He is potentially the best horse in the race, potentially the best staying horse in the country. Underestimate him at one's peril.

It's just his running style. On and off the bridle. I'm not ruling him out at all.
