I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of Nicholls's secretly-harboured ambitions to do a Michael Dickinson in one of the big races. But he doesn't have the contenders yet.

I had a look through the card. I can't see me betting anything in any race tomorrow.

I think Clan will win the big race but will be thrilled for Santini (and his backers) if he pulls it off. I would already have backed him for the Gold Cup if they hadn't introduced the National into the conversation. If Aintree is definitely a target he'll need to put up a well-beaten-but-looked-as-though-it-was-really-trying kind of performance to get it down a big chunk, which I can't see happening (the big chunk, I mean). I just think the National talk is to play down his true class and keep the pressure off expectations.

Surely someone here will have to test make this a real test of stamina to really see if Cyrname stays.

The race has a long history of multiple winners, which would suggest strongly the old adage; "horses for courses".

Frodon will make the running and we know he can stay 3m, but I bet you this field make him look like a non-stayer, Black Op will try to stay up with the lead, Santini will try to stay with the field, all the rest will play cat and mouse....

Like all King George's, they will get racing quite some way out. For me, I can see Clan Des Obeaux cruising to the front between the last two fences, Cyrname holding off the resilient Santini for a close second, with the weakening Lostintranslation dropping back after the last.

You have to wonder whether Saint Calvados will line up at all, first time out and an interrupted preparation and only one runner from the stable in the last month!

First time up always the right time to catch Saint Calvados.

The fact they’ve declared him at all, gives me reason for optimism.

I've changed my mind and decided to along with Santini (ew) at 6/1. Three places are on offer so each-way seems prudent.

On ORs, only Cyrname is rated higher and I have doubts about his stamina.

Clan Des Obeaux probably should be rated higher and remains my idea of the most likely winner but horses are only human...

If I can get 33/1 or better Frodon on Saturday morning, I might have a small ew interest in him too. I was prepared to back him for the Gold Cup and if he's running here I have to wonder why they would duck out of a decent Cheltenham hcap a few days later. I'm a big fan of the horse and if he can get into a rhythm over the fences, who knows.

I would hate to think they were only running such a good horse in the race to make the pace for the stablemates.

I can't believe they would run Frodon as a pacemaker - I really hope not - what a waste of a very decent horse. If I can get 33s I'm tempted to reopen my online account - that's a crazy price surely? I would fancy him more with B than CDO with STD.
