Lexus Chase

whole teams still on learning curve

I agree with that bit.

I don't agree with the common theory that letting the horse run with the choke out would somehow improve his chance of staying.

In an ideal world, he needed to be held up as long as possible but he was very unsettled before the race and they may have been in front earlier than intended.

He was going 4 wide at the turn 2 out, he should of moved into the lead
before that turn and gradually wound up the pace, he tried to it into
a sprint, admitted afterwards should/of/could of rode it differently.
tidal bay was fully wound up 3 out going topspeed, flemenstar wasnt.
Thats my reading of the race.

I thought Flemenstar was quite noticeably on his toes in the ring at Leopardstown. I hadn't seen him in the flesh before so not sure if that is a trait of his, though Casey did reference it after the race.

Either way I would imagine they will do everything in their power to get him settled now. He might have won the Lexus and he might win the Hennessy from the front, but if the Gold Cup is the ultimate aim then surely they have to get him settled to have any hope of staying.

It is the owner behind the whole thing with regards the trip. Curran wanted to run in the Lexus and now he wants to run in the Hennessy.

The Gold Cup is the holy grail for Irish steeple chase owners; always has been.
Mr Curran is lucky to have a horse so good and knows its unlikely he will get another as good.
Who are we to second guess his dream?
Take China Rock. He runs as well as anything for 2m 5f and then stops dead on anything less than good ground. A hell of a horse who Ml Flynn would love to see get lucky once at Leop or Cheltenham. Having stem cell treated his tendons I am sure he would stem Cell CR for stamina if he could. Might be another Ryanair candidate.(that must make 20 at this stage)

Makes you wonder what Tidal Bay could have achieved had he been with Paul Nicholls throughout his career.

Flemenstar travel's and jumps so well that it would be exciting to see him in the Champion Chase against Sprinter Sacre.
Probably not that much more Arazi as he went completely off the wall when he was with HJ and used to take the p!ss out of O'Regan and Hughes after he won on him 1st time he was on board.......My bet is he's mellowed with age plus new surroundings always seem to give a horse something else to think about as can a change of jockey if they are big thinkers like he seems to be. McMahon, Skofield, Jacob and Ruby have all had a go. He seems to get on real well with Ruby on board but what's new? Not many don't

Be warned though it doesn't take much to send his type off again and if he gets bored around Ditchat he could go straight back to being an a$$hole at anytime. Ya gotta love him

Hojo getting banned was the best thing that could have happened to the Wylies. Nicholls and Mullins have done really well for them.

As I remember it Florida Pearl wasn't that keen on Ruby either - perhaps it is an O'Leary horse thing ?:D

As for Tidal Bay - and all the Wylie horses I am struggling to think of one that has gone downhill since leaving Johnson.
