Lexus Chase

What happens then if he runs a massive race in the Hennesy, still go the QM route or take his chance in the GC?

Way I read it, trainer has accepted that he won't see out trip at Cheltenham and wants to run in QM. Owners wants another go at 3 miles. Will run in Hennessy, if he wins that they go gold cuppin, if not most likely Queen motherin

Then there are 2 fools the one who thinks he'll win the Gold Cup and the one who thinks he'll beat Sprinter Sacre.

Anyone seeany bookies out there willing to lay him at 20/1 for the Ryanair as he's not running in it?

Doesn't have the gears on any ground with good in it to beat the monster.Think he'd **** up in the Ryanair.I still think they will run him in the GC,whatever his limitations.Just hope they don't ruin the horse.

Sorry but Why?

I was about the only person on here who went for Tidal Bay when he won the old Whitbread and I backed him when he won the Arkle so I'm a big fan of the loveable rougue but the Gold Cup? with those undulations and his tendency to act the madam I reckon it's the one race he should not run him in. You just can't afford to make a mistake or get behind and expect to win......I personally wouldn't dream of backing him in it and think it would be just too much to expect of the horse.

Given the opportunity to dawdle round behind them in the world hurdle where jumping accurately at speed is somewhat less important it's hard to imagine him being out of the frame.

As far as the National goes he was somewhat unlucky to lose his pilot on his last visit and he was out of form at the time.

You have to consider he has never fallen in his life and nut case or not he has more right to run in the national than most that do and he seems to stay forever.

To quantify what PN said, TB would run in the CGC if it came up soft but in the more likely scenario where the ground is good there is every reason to run in the WH. The GN has been the horse's long term target all season.

synchronised made mistakes and got left behind and won it by staying on. it's probably a stronger renewal this year but tidal bay's season consists of a 2nd place in the hennessy off top weight and a lexus win. that's gold cup form and he deserves his chance.

if he doesn't act on the track then i can't see how the world hurdle (at a sharper distance) suits so much better.

as for the national i've just grown to dislike the race really, but obviously the prize money on offer tempts the owners and nicholls. lets just hope the old boy doesn't come to grief like last years lexus and gold cup winner did.

Tidal Bay has a better chance in the World Hurdle than in the Gold Cup,
in the Grand National, I dont think he will be handiapped to win but could be a good tool for the owner to comprese the weights for Prince Du Bechne

totally agree..bizarre pair of races..could they be more different?

when you look at Synchronised..you can see comparisons with TB..would be the GC for me and end the comparison there..no National..don't run decent horses in that race imo

I hate the National and refuse to watch it but a very decent horse won it last year ...

The World Hurdle/National thing isn't so bizarre. Numerous horses spend their pre-National season hurdling and TB has already been mixing and matching.

I don't much want to see him over the National fences because of my general feelings about the race but I don't think it's a disgrace in any way at all for connections to consider this particular combination. The race he goes for at Cheltenham will be determined by the ground, anyway, as DG said.

i respect ruby's opinion. but can't help but wonder, with al ferof out, what would be the case if silviniaco conti wasn't around, and he didn't have a ride.

i found this interesting

I know Paul Nicholls said afterwards that the Gold Cup was his likely target, but I'm not really in favour of that. He made a little mistake four out and again fiddled the last and that wouldn't be good enough in the Gold Cup.

Sir Des Champs must have absolutely no chance at Cheltenham then..he hit just about every fence

I love the Tidal Bay renaissance but agree that he will find it tough in a good ground GC - if the weather never improves however he must have a mighty chance on soft ground .

As for Flemenstar - the ride was baffling . It must be possible that allowed to bowl along he could have jumped them silly , taken a breather and got home .

Kicking King was way more relaxed than this fella. He never ran as free as Flemenstar does.

Kicking King was a hell of a horse as well and a real favourite of mine, it was a real shame we never saw him in the King George against Kauto in 2006. Not sure he would have beaten him but injury stopped us ever finding out.

KK was finished by then - only a lousy Tom Scudamore ride on Monkerhostin when Johnson was injured allowed KK to win the 2005 KG at Sandown. He won the 2005 GC on class against a terrible field in the absence of Best Mate - he didn't stay but was just miles better than them and on the prevailing good ground a fit and well Best Mate would have cantered past him up the hill.

The Tidal Bay connection is apt. He jumped like a pig in his Novice season prior to his Arkle where he was stag like. There is a good chance a return to Cheltenham will iron out SDC's jumping issues and he was pretty much foot perfect in his Jewson.
