Last weeks Lincoln Trial at Wolves often throws up pointers to the big race, and this term's was no exception.
4yo have a good record in the Donny contest and Tacarib Bay (33/1 generally) ran a race full of promise in the trial. From his unpromising draw (11 of 13) , Sean Levey had little choice but drop him in and gave him a mighty ride to finish a running on 5th around a sharp track that was far from ideal.
Has plenty of straight track experience, placing at Ascot and Newmarket, latterly 3rd in the valuable Buckingham Palace handicap on Champion's Day.
Don't normally bet ante-post but couldn't resist a nibble at this,to celebrate the opening of the UK flat season.

I have three tracker holdovers from last year in this - Wanees, Al Mubhir and Jimi Hendrix. I think they all need further than a mile now though so I won't be getting involved.

Atrium is a horse that caught my eye last year.

He has some winning form at the track and as he didn't make the cut for the Balmoral, hopefully that might mean he is still well enough handicapped to win this. The fact he handles different goings I see as a posititve as if there is a downpour you feel he will handle it.

I'll be looking to back him nearer the time. If William Buick rides him again you'd think he will be one of the favourites on the day and rightly so.

Not a race I’d normally go silly over but I had a strong word (from a very reliable source) for Jimi Hendrix so took the 20s

I'm going to wait and see as my a/p bets havent been very successful.
Bopedro, darkness, boardman.tacarib bay and eaglesway are on my radar.

I was told via SC when William Buick got off Antrium he told Charlie Fellows he'll win the lincoln....true or not I had a tenner on him @14/1

Yes, but I won't easily forget how raging Gosden was with Dettori for the ride he gave Saga. He gave the strong impression Saga should have won by some way. I'll see if I can find the interview.

Edit - in the meantime, this sectional graph backs up Gosden's take:

Saga | Horse Profile & Form | At The Races

Edit 2 - there also has to be a fair chance the Hunt Cup is the main aim.

I'm not doubting Saga's claims, I just feel JH's optimal form last year was when he came from the back and was able to show off his turn of foot.

Britannia? I think JH comes out best looking through the form of that race. He was left in front very early and the other pace horses were nowhere.

The Britannia was run on g/f. His trainer reckons he'll handle cut. Won at Donny (7f sft) last year, too.

From RP:
Leading Newmarket fancies Akhu Najla and Unforgotten are to miss the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster on Saturday week in favour of alternative targets.

Could be good news for me re Saga? Unforgotten was the Gosdens' only other entry left.

Saga has gone blue pretty much across the board since we discussed him earlier today.

So have a few others and the moves coincide with Segal's ante-post item on the race coming online this evening. I'm presuming Saga is one he's putting up.

Doesn’t mention him, he goes for Al Mubhir & Wanees.

Cheers, wilsonl. Must have been the withdrawal of the other Gosden (owned by Godolphin) horse that sparked the move.

Betting's taking shape now, with the Pricewise fancies 1st & 2nd in the market.
Jimi Hendrix is still 16/1 with Sky (if you can get it). Was looking to save on Al Mubhir, but 11/2 looks niggardly, imo.

It is reet. I backed him on both his starts after his Goodwood second over 10f and that Frankel stamina gene really kicked in on heavy over a mile. I don't think better ground will suit over that sort of distance.

I've had a look through the weights down to the current #30 (5-day stage)

This is my long list with current best odds, with no idea how the draw might play out.

The list is based on my 'par' for the race (at the top of the MON column) and I'm really looking for something that might hit 125 on the scale. They aren't in order of preference; they're in order of cherrypicked ratings (ie best form).

I'm on Saga, as you know, at 33s and 25s and am more than happy with that. He's definitely my #1.

I might add a few more from the list once the final decs are known but I don't want to risk non-runners at this stage. Once I've decided on a final short list I'll probably double them up with four or five in the National.
