Looking ahead to the NH season 2015/2016 proper

the race was a non event though..wtf the fook was the jock on fav doing for one?..never put in the race..a bit laughable the whole race imo.

nothing against Ferguson but I think the way PB finished after a year off the track in comparison to Simon's almost 3 yrs, puts his training skills the same way behind Henderson.

couldn't pass a slow horse there over a trip that wouldn't have suited bobsworth one bit though..can't see it having the speed for 2m tbh..do you mean a 2 miler at Wolves?:)

He does too much Simonsig. Probably safe to say Simonsig would have waltzed past Bob over 2m there.

Wolverhampton :D

Seven Barrows will be fairly happy with that i'd imagine. Geraghty said he knew the gauge was low @ 2nd last so had to sit quiet. Simonsig pulled so hard but said you'd really have to expect that after 900 days off. Henderson said there on RUK that 2m route looks like way forward now so looks like Corky gets his way after all. Would be some sight to see him take on Un de Sceaux up front.

On a side note I couldn't for the life of me understand why all the money came for purple bay. He's a 2miler on Good ground. I had a nice bet on Simon in 2 place betting today at evens when he drifted under the pressure of the Purple Bay money.

the list of horses that could waltz past slow bob over 2 miles would be a long one though...bob is a horse that only gets going after a gruelling 3m+ job

lets see what happens in a proper 2 mile job with simonsig..i'm not convinced on todays effort

Even I could waltz by him over 2. Might be stretching it a bit.
I'm not saying I'm entirely convinced either. Just stating the 2m route is the one I would go down.

the race was only a couple of seconds faster than the earlier novice race..suggesting that they were finishing with speed rather than stamina..Simonsig should have run all over bob in that scenario..so to me to put Simonsig back in trip against speed horses is exactly the opposite of what he wants

not a top two miler for me unless he was completely unfit here..then again i doubt Bob was either...i can't see anything there that persuades me Simon is a top 2 mile hoss tbh

First race in two years and massively keen to boot, it's no surprise he ran out of gas. If the QM is run on decent ground he must go there with UDS vulnerable on that sort of surface.

He has been off a long time mind. He also does too much, so was unlikely to be finishing with aplomb.
Jury is out atm and will be interesting to see where he's aimed at next.

the thought of him beating UDS is a bit mindblowing to me..i know he was off a long time..yes he was keen..but he couldn't pass bob. thats the equivalent of usain bolt not having the speed to pass mo farrar in a middling pace mile race..then people saying..oh bolt will be ok back over 100 metres

the point is..bob doesn't have 2.5 mile speed..they haven't made the race a test..everything was in simonsigs favour there..looked woefully slow to me

Ultimately I'd like to see him come out of this race and run again under more suitable race conditions. Too soon to right him off as a possible Grade 1 chaser.

I'm not writing him off as a G1 hoss..just not seeing it over 2 mile based on today..today says the opposite.

yes..lets see him over 2 miles when he is supposedly fit...we might actually have something to go on then...today was a nonsense race that gave out the wrong signals to me

Let's not forget Bob beat subsequent Champion Hurdler Rock on Ruby over hurdles in their Novice days.

i'm not seeing the relevance all these years on tbh..bob is now a slow horse at less than a strongly run 3 miles+ race..thats slow compared to the best at shorter..what he was a number of years ago doesn't now apply

also you could argue that ROR was never a speed 2 miler,,he won a CH through a strong test that played to his strengths..he's probably a 2m4 horse to show his best

like i said..if you look at todays race in isolation..its illogical to drop simonsig back..i'm not saying he can't win a G1 at 2 miles..i'm saying that to make the argument on todays race goes against logic

Un de Sceaux's style is perfect for Simonsig, as is two miles around Prestbury Park at Championship pace. Whether he is still good enough is another matter.

Equally too soon to be saying he is a threat to UDS on the back of yesterday's performance, no?

I've no particular ground concerns for UDS at Cheltenham either. He easily dealt with much quicker ground than he'd previously encountered, in the Arkle.

Re Simonsig......I have a small amber flag waving about his finishing effort yesterday - though only a small one, as there were obviously mitigating circumstances.

If it was dry then the Wednesday ground may be as fast as he would want it. Listening to Ruby and Willie after Punchestown that potentially could be a concern for him to put it all in.
Still, he would still need opposition.

The CoC never takes chances these days, Frankel - can't see it ever getting so quick that it woukd genuinely compromise UDS.

what is the concern with the ground for UDS?..he won on proper Good ground at the festival..GS official call wasn't that accurate..calling it GS was egging it.it won't be faster there in 2016..it will be the same of slower

Unlikely that it'll be riding fast but didn't stop Ruby having a whinge about the ground when Vautour won the supreme.
UDS is a worthy fav but potentially he could run a few pounds below his best on the Wed ground. That still may be good enough but may just give someone a chance to make it a race.
