O'Brien leaning towards Scorpion and Mahler although the latter has very little chance of getting in.

Purple Moon looks a definate for the race as does Belamy Cay.

Bellamy Cay is a seriously  horse in this, his shocker in the Irish Leger notwithstanding.

Big entry from Godolphin, I guess they really badly want to win this race - who doesn't!
I can't see any of theirs in with a chance though; whereas Yeats and Septimus do look interesting

Interesting to see where Yeats and Septimus go now they have been confirmed non-runners. Will they clash in the staying races or drop to the 1m4f races?

Ah, I didn't realise they were def N/R. That makes things even more interesting!

I can't see Scorpion coping with the atmosphere on the day at all.
Agreed... could see him extremely wound up

Even Yeats got a bit wound up last year which is not like him.

At least one of them for the Cadran?

My best friend's horse, Douro Valley, won todays Listed Naturalism Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield, guaranteeing him a start in the Caulfield Cup. Should he run in the first 3 he automatically qualifies for the longer edition of the Melbourne Cup.

So fingers totally crossed, as I might be going to Melbourne for the Cup this year with her!

Best of Luck, Grand Armee. What a fantastic opportunity for you and your friend so I hope he does you proud!

Very exciting indeed GA! Fingers crossed for the Caulfield Cup...

As for Yeats and Septimus, I reckon Coolmore might be keen to give Yeats a shot over a mile and a half before they pack him off to stud.. don't really have much to lose..

Both Scorpion and Mahler will travel to Melbourne. Steve Baster will ride Mahler if he gets a run while Scorpion will be ridden by Mick Kinane.

Does Mahler have any chance of getting a run?

Looks like Mahler would need 9 runners rated above him to drop out so with Yeats and Septimus not running he would need seven more. It is possible with injuries etc. Purple Moon needs two more to drop out before he gets in.

3200m Handicap to be run Tuesday 6 November 2007

Will all those horses be allowed to run given the virus there? If Mahler managed to sneak in he must surely have a decent chance off that weight if he runs to form?

Not sure how the virus will play out.

Mahler will love the trip but might not have enough toe at the business end of the race.

I could see him setting it up for Scorpion.

They should stick Scorpion right out the back and let him come through the horses.

Mahler is not a slow horse (do you really need a turn of foot to win a Melbourne Cup), loves fast ground, tough and honest and that weight is too good to be true.

But he has to get into the race first I guess.

Ran today in the Diamond Stakes at Leopardstown. Tailed off by 17 lengths.

From the RP report:
<< Bellamy Cay was later reported to have mucus in his trachea on endoscopic examination >>

So maybe he won't be going to Melbourne after all

Miss Finland got caught up in traffic, and before she got out the leader, Rubiscent (whom was 50/1), had already managed to kick away. Probably also didn't help there was a bias towards the inside for leaders.

She doesn't have to worry about this horse, Rubiscent again, because he is dropping back to the mile and handicap races of the Toorak Handicap and Emirates Mile.

Miss Finland will follow another traditional path, which Makybe Diva went, via the Cox Plate. Connections are trying to keep her at WFA races as much as possible this spring, as it will have no effect on her when it comes to the first Tuesday.

She will go down as one in a million if she happens to win the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup, no other horse ever has won the Golden Slipper and Melbourne Cup.
