Not So Glorious Goodwood

I'm going to after time here (mostly cos I'm hacked off I didn't put either in the naps comp) as I backed Landaman and Hurricane Higgins; Johnstons's horses have come alive in the last week and should be followed, particularly those who's mark has dropped over recent runs. Stable is on fire now. As for laying them out, according to C4 the only reason HH ran in the 2m5f handicap is because it was a flag start - HH has failed a stalls test!! So there isn't always a grand plan!

The only one I like tomorrow, though I won't be able to watch it is Hazel Lavery in the Lillie Langtry. Looks on the upgrade and C.Hills along with Varian and Balding are the only real trainers in my good books in terms of punting at present. Oh and of course Sir Henry aswell, get well soon Sir.

I see Hazel has been very well backed this morning or overnight.

Gosden has pulled trade commissioner out of the Betfred Mile because he was badly drawn and had no chance. Sorry, I mean he hasn't eaten up.

Little bit of additional info re:draw for the 10f race:

Draw 1-7 is fair (IV 1.1)
Draw 8-14 is poor (IV 0.76)
Draw 15-18 is good (IV 1.42)

So surprisingly very high is the best historically.

3 out of the first 4 today drawn 15, 16, 18

It's surprising as the general consensus would be the opposite.

Gatewood is chronic value for the Group 3 tomorrow. I backed him last time out but the gap between group race and handicaps is hardest to bridge at 10 and
12f. Quest for Peace owns the single best piece of form and I like Dubai Prince in this company as well. I'll probably be backing both.

In the Betfred Mile Captain Bertie is worth another go with a good draw and lots of deadwood in the Betfred Mile. It's about time the powers that be changed handicaps so they are drawn using ratings rather than weights after wfa is taken off. It's bullshit that decent 3yo's can't get in these sort of races. Bronze Angel will just have to wait another day.

Well two seconds is all I've managed so far, but yes I am very keen on Quest For Peace as well.

And just as sweet on this...

In the Gordon's King George stakes on Friday, Beyond Desire looks one to take seriously. 2/3 so far this season, the Caladonia Lady win looks good as that horse should have a good future and is only a 3yo, nice break since poor run in France last time and the Roger Varian horse should be well capable of picking up another group race before the end of the season. Very straightforward and likes to take care of business from the front which I like (has improved markedly since front running tactics have been adopted). Could blow these away. 20's for Nunthorpe might look biggish after Friday me thinks.

Best of luck.

It's a gap John Gosden has bridged many times before, and Gatewood looks just another of his pattern-class wolves masquerading as a handicap sheep. Certain to improve again for the step up in trip, and with only an out of form Cumani horse and another Godolphin failure (hugely flattered by his defeat of Fury in a paceless minor conditions race) to beat, 9/4 could seem like finding money in the street by tomorrow evening.

Many times, At this sort of trip? The proximity of Black Spirit at Ascot suggests that Gatewood isn't improving much from race to race, and he won that handicap off only 98.

Quest for Peace was disappointing last time out but that run was too bad to be true and prior to that he was up against Group 1 animals.

I know stall 22 should have no chance but I can't just dismiss Boom and Bust. So I have being backing ew at decent prices. A good horse that has been well placed to date and I'm prepared to take the risk at the price.

I hope you got stuck in, Euro. Can always trust Fallon even in this era to get the job done unlike Mr Dettori. Mind you, even Frankie could have steered that home me thinks.

I've come full circle on the Mile and think Excellent Guest can do it now, my early fancy Madam Macie drifting like a barge to about 33's the last time I looked.

Great shout Laurence. Backed in the place market just at the off. Good call.

I'm just a bitter man David. I had a hefty bet on Mabait when he was touched off in the Victoria Cup. I've never forgiven him.

Just back from the pub where the highlight was one of my mates getting the place pot at Goodwood up for €1.60.Got over €4500 for his troubles-instead of buying drink for everyone he treated us to placepot perms at the evening meetings. We subsequently got the pot up at Bath for a fiver-informed opinion was the dividend would be about €20 -when we heard it was €99 there was a fair amount of celebrating.

If we ignore Nahrain's last run - a run she obviously needed over a trip that is short of her optimum - she wouldn't be 9/2 for this by a long chalk. Respect Izzi Top but she's a bit skinny.

I'm not having a bet but I reckon this could be the day for The Fugue. Provided they haven't had too much rain that is...
