Novice Chasers 2019/20

Ground thing. If it's proper soft I reckon they'd favour Marsh. Willie ran Sire Des Champ and Black Hercules in past editions. They were proper stayers as well.

Its actually more a jockey thing that dictates Willie's final decision as what horse runs in what race..

"Having the right Jockey for certain horses might dictate that i run in another race, rather than what someone (connections) wants to run in"

"I like my stable jockey to ride the fancied ones, especially in novice races, horses can jump from one trip to another. Having your stable jockey is often better than the actual distance of the race"

Assume Alloha would stay in the RSA?

Edit: Hmmn. He looks a potentially iffy stayer at the RSA trip.

Simon Rowlands on Alaho@
Arguably the onethe clock speaks most persuasively for, however, is ALLAHO , a useful novice hurdler butalways a chaser in the making and a winner at Fairyhouse last time. The placedhorses are rated in the 130s and Allaho pulverised them by 21 lengths and more, running fastest late on and relatively much the fastest overall of three chaseson the day.
Allaho lacks experience (just two runsover fences and four over hurdles) but is one of the most exciting horses onshow in the whole of Cheltenham week. To time followers, at least.

Ruby said Easy Game 'probably' Marsh and Allaho 'probably' RSA.

Allaho has never gone a distance less than 2m5f in any of his jumps races.

Easy Game has never gone a distance more than 2m5f in any of his jumps races.

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

I think it is pretty obvious that Allaho will go RSA.

Massively but this is Paul Nicholls. Trainers comments after will be important. The jumping was the most disappointing part but he did put it to bed 2 out when required.

At his press day Nicholls said he'll come on a ton for the run and the Marsh is the plan.

Red Risk, carrying top weight of 11st 8lb, won a novices handicap chase at Ludlow today by eleven lengths. In November 2018 at Auteuil he was beaten fifteen lengths into second by his now stable mate Saint Sonnet.

Allaho going RSA then or is Mullins pulling a fast one & he goes Marsh?
As a Champ backer, would have preferred to avoid Allaho.

He's a contender for both.

RSA - Champ, Minella Indo, Copperhead, Faugheen, Slate House

Marsh - Itchy Feet, Mister Fisher, Samcro, Easy Game, Melon

Marsh is deeper

Not sure either race is particularly 'deep' this year, but no way I'd say the Marsh is obviously the deeper of the 2, as we look at it now.

Also, I think if Faugheen goes to the festival, it'll be the Marsh for him. And even if that happens, still wouldn't be sure that the Marsh is easier.

Take Allaho out of it and only three horses can win the RSA

I think half a dozen have a chance in the Marsh. I mean Melon and Samcro have the Festival form.

Likeliest winner for sure but like Copperhead in the Reynoldstown his last race fell apart. I've never seen Midnight Shadow run to the line over fences.

Itchy Feet wins the Marsh though doesn't he!

Hope so. I got him added to the market after his Hurdle defeat earlier in the season.
Got some decent prices about him.

Always thought he was a good horse, ran lame and bleeding in the Supreme and still ran to the line for third. Poor planning running him again at Aintree etc last season.

I took a gamble the horse was still there after defeat, and they’ve actually took their time this time round and seem to have got it right.

Allaho is the danger, can’t see anything getting close.

Jaysus lads, I wasn't overly impressed with Itchy Feet at Sandown. I thought his jumping left a lot to be desired!
"not fluent 5th, headway approaching 3 out, stumbled next, led flat, soon ridden and hung right"

He had loads of time to creep into the race and overcome some early sketchy and sticky jumping. And while he did travel well into the latter part of the race and power away from them at the end, it was a p**s poor race and he won't be afforded those luxuries at Cheltenham.

On the face of it he has the festival form from LY in the Supreme, but like Thomas Derby, he really only stayed on when others tapped out on the soft ground. Re-watching that race, he struggled to hold his position in the final third of the race - look where he was 3 out and how hard he was already being ridden. I firmly believe he lacks a bit of tactical mid race speed and overall i now think the supreme form from LY is somewhat Questionable.

And while we know he'll finish strong and come up the hill, I'd suggest that a combination of his relative inexperience over fences, sticky jumping and the his lack of tactical speed in the middle part of the race, compared to others, that he'll be too far back come the back of the last in the Marsh to use his stamina to full effect up the hill.

At the prices, I'd be against him. If Allaho ran here i'd strongly favour him over Itchy Feet.
If Allaho doesn't run here, I'm leaning towards dutching Mister Fisher and Easy Game - as they have the least negatives of the remaining obvious contenders imo.

Lame and bled in the Supreme? That's the first I've ever seen or heard of that.
I've just done a quick search on RP & RTV to read the race comments and there is no mention of it.
Also just read Olly Murpy stable tours on a few different sites too, and not a mention of it there either?

In work so don’t have time to get it up. I wasn’t aware he bled either till after the race, perhaps in last years thread and stewards report? He definitely bled anyway.

His jumping will improve for that run, he only had a jog round Leicester in what was a glorified schooling session before going to Sandown.

Betting suggests he was to improve for that race not win it, I was impressed anyway. Think I also have a soft spot for him after tipping him up at 33s and finishing third bleeding.

From stewards report that day

Following the race, Neil King reported that BRANDON CASTLE, which was pulled up, was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Soft on this occasion, and would prefer a quicker surface. The Veterinary Officer reported that ITCHY FEET (FR), placed third, had bled from the nose and that THOMAS DARBY (IRE), placed second, finished lame on its right fore.

Definitely bled but didn’t know he finished lame also. I recall thinking what on earth was OMurphy thinking running him at Aintree after that
