Novice Chasers 2020 / 2021

Asterion Right wheel flange won't be going anywhere near Chelt's me thinks.

Must be boxed backwards in Yorkhill's old box....

Fusil Raffles a massive disappointment there. Winner a bit fortunate

Winner a bit fortunate

Yes, fortunate Johnson was riding the other one.

Ironically enough, I was preparing myself to come on here and say brilliant stuff from horse and jockey re Gumball only for him to fire the poor beast into the turf. The horse didn't deserve that but in fairness probably neither did Tricky Dicky.

Dicky taking some flack on social media for that fall. Thought Gumball looked all the winner there, not sure how much horse was left. Power seemed fairly confident he’d get to him in the interview then.

Difficult to say I guess. I was heavily into Fusil Raffles but couldn’t believe the 13/2 for Eldorado Allen since I only had a whisker between them in my book. So a saver did indeed save me his time.

Looked like he couldn't pick his feet up out of the heavy ground. I'm not entirely convinced all of Nolan's are running that well either. If I'm right about that Disco might get caught out as well. That said he might be well handicapped and good enough anyway.

Very impressive by Big Breakaway.

He’s a novice that’s going to do nice things in this game.

Impressive maybe in the last half-mile. They went very slowly for a long way there. I'd want to see him in a stronger-run race before going overboard (not saying you are).

The The Buthcher Said looked to be closing in with a lot left and still not off the bridle until the really bad mistake. But the manner in which The Big Breakaway jumped effortlessly allowed him to cruise through the race....One of those rare spectacles that you watch and have no anxiety as to getting over the obstacles!

Yes, I thought his jumping was the impressive bit. Gained lengths in the air and the getaway.

Heskin looks like he should be riding in black and white. Not saying he isn't effective but does seem to have missed the aerodynamics lessons that other jockeys took on board. More pronounced these days I guess, but looks like a throwback.

Heskin is another jockey I have as a negative. I always have to have a second think before backing anything he rides.

Given how Disco ran in Cheltenham, maybe something not fully right with latest exhibition but disappointing today

Not sure he wanted it heavy, as others have said the yard doesn't seem to be in form as Discorama showed getting hammered.
Not one to give up on.

I would say its more to do with a national mark rather than stable form.
A mix of both I suspect. We discussed the possibility of Nolan trying to lose a pound or two for the National the night before, and that was certainly right the way Robbie let him drop out of contention without moving a muscle. The stable is also in poor form and it's a legitimate excuse for Latest Exhibition.

I would have thought Nolan's were in good form. Better than most years. That doesnt mean he wasnt raced with spring targets in mind.

2m6f was always going to be a bit narrow trip-wise for Latest Exhibition, I reckon.

Run him in the Ten Up, and if he’s beaten there, get him handicapped for the Irish Nash.

I'm not sure Latest Exhibition is an out and out stayer. I've heard people talking about a step up in trip for the NH Chase, but I'm not buying it, and for me he'd benefit more for step down in trip. FWIW though I'm happy to write yesterday off. Many an RSA winner got stuck in the ground at some point in its novice season.

Would be run off his feet against quicker horses over shorter, I reckon, Paul. Doesn’t have the required change of gears - all he does is stay, imo.

LE. I think over 2 miles Unexpected would be gone and LE would be sightseeing

I think over 3 miles, he'll improve

Take nothing away from the winner yesterday either, he looked good but is at home in taht ground

Chantry House did it OK in the end, though didn't always look comfortable going right-handed, I thought.

Jumped well enough too.
